I don't have a problem with either suspension. Now I wonder if the refs and/or the league does anything about the hits that occur every time a pass is made and the checking player follows thru on a hit well after the puck is gone (basically every time a defenceman comes back and moves the puck up).
Prusts hit was late but I think there are at least 10 hits per game, either from behind or late (usually on defencemen) that are not called. And Prusts hit was exactly what Scott Stevens did on every hit he ever threw, late and high, yet everyone thinks Stevens was some great bodychecker. Both are goons.

I think the Prust suspension was to try to settle things down in the series. Getting rid of one problem in Carcillo was easy for the NHL based on his actions.
Get rid of Prust and things might return to how games 1 and 2 were played. Prust would have been a target plus he can dish it out as well.
Stevens started his NHL career over 30 years ago and hasn't played in the NHL for over a decade. His hits, dirty or not, were in a different era.

It's a garbage suspension.
It's later than the Rome hit in the 2011 finals, and that was a 4 gamer.
Just a garbage judgement again from the wheel of justice.
One of the latest hits I've seen in years.

The Abdekator hit at the world's was far worse... And it was hours before, not years.
Prust hit was negligent, reckless and brutal - but was interference. Did not target the head. He did not leave his feet. I am surprised it wasn't more like four games, but let's not be overly dramatic about it.

Speaking of overly dramatic...he said one of and really that's a subjective statement (matter of opinion). It's one of the latest hits - he has seen in years. I just saw the Abdelkader hit and it wasn't sooo much later as your post implies. Definitely looked more dangerous because of contact to the head, but the topic was the lateness of the hit.

I think the suspensions are fine both ways. At the end of the day, Price is still out for the series.

What's Price's injury got to do with these suspensions?

I can guarantee Matt Cooke would have got 10-15 games for that hit because he's a repeat offender. My issue is that why only 2 games for something that would result in a steep penalty for a repeat offender? It's like the courts slapping a murderer on the wrists because he didn't have a prior history of committing murder. The NHL needs to grow some stones like other leagues and really clamp down on these hits. I guarantee guys would think twice about running a guy late if they knew it was going to cost them 10+ games pay. If the NHL ever really wants to take these types of hits out of the game they aren't going about it the right way handing out only two games for a predatory hit like this.

i've said it once, and i'll say it again... a few thousand dollar fine, and a few games, is that really penalizing enough??
for any injury intent related penalties, why not make the penalty a 10 min major (ie. double the 5 min major of today). make the dumb action of an individual a penalty to the entire team (10 mins of straight pp should cost the team about a goal, two, maybe more).
when the penalty of a single action by a single individual of a team can cost a team losing a game, not only will it make individuals more careful of their actions, it will make GMs and coaches more careful of who they sign or choose to play.
naturally, fines and future suspensions still play a role as that is the only way to battle the goonery/buffoonery that occurs when a game is out of reach.
seriously, does any coach play matt cooke in the playoffs knowing that at any given moment he is a double major (10 min straight of powerplay) liability to his team? getting the buffoons out of the league is step1 in avoiding these plays. step2 is continuing to heavily penalize 1 time offenders to ensure players are thinking before going out to make a big game changing hit.

I have think that's the whole point, and why the NHL was negligent in their handling of this.
First, the referees working the game should be done for the rest of playoffs. How can you miss that? You can debate 5 vs 10 minute majors, but the Abdekator hit properly called as a major knocked the US out of the tournament. Habs won the game perhaps because no major penalty was called, like there should have been. When officials miss something so blatantly obvious, the length of suspension should be increased, and 2 games does not reflect that.

Let's really punish then. Missed calls result in the 10 min major to start of the next game. I dare u to play ur goons or idiot players now coach.
