can anyone recommend a computer repair shop in calgary with quick turnaround - preferably in SE or SW calgary - i called memory express but they said their turnaround time is a week, which is too long

Best place I can recommend in calgary would be XPert Solutions. They do onsite (in home) repairs. you can book them right online through their website and they come right away. almost as quick as ordering a pizza. lol. they come to you for free (no travel charge) anywhere in calgary.
I booked a tech last week they were able to come an hour after I booked and he was super knowledgable. had everything fixed (viruses removed, system cleaned up...) in 50 minutes. its basically like new again
their link is: xps.unmix.ca

Thread hi-jack.

My wife's old Toshiba laptop from 2006 started acting up and wouldn't boot into Windows anymore. Its running Vista. I can't remember the error but is there any way to get into it so I can recover files? Mainly concerned about the files since it's pictures of my kids.

Thanks.

If it won't boot at all, the best thing to do is take the back off and remove the physical hard drive. you can then attach it to another computer with a "SATA to USB connector" sold at memory express for about $40. You should then be able to drag-and-drop your files from your old HDD to the other computer.

be careful not to copy potential viruses from the old vista HDD though.

If you youre not that tech savvy, I can recommend a great place that can come to your house and do this all for you in under an hour.

let me know how it works out for you.

Yeah sure you "booked" a tech last week...

Registering pretending to be a customer to promote your business is pretty low.
