Some stores charges you a fee if you use the debit card for less than $10 charges but not a lot of stores. Reason for it, I am not sure since the merchant does not have to pay a fee for interac debit. They do on credit card charges though.

I am pretty sure stores pay a fee for Interac debit. Where a CC would be a percentage, Interac is usually a fixed amount like 25¢. That's why some places pass the fee along to the consumer.
If a person is buying a $1 item that costs the store 50¢, them paying the 25¢ debit fee would be taking 1/2 their profits away.

Not on our Debit Card machine. We get charged flat fee service fee monthly, then we pay percentage on any credit card charges. Mind you, most or all of our debit card charges are at least $20 or more so maybe you are right on charges for anything less than $10.

A lot of debit machines are flat rates now, yearly or monthly.

Really? Maybe's it's just carried over from the days where getting approved took 10-20+ seconds, but like George Carlin says, I can't stand the guys waiting around to get approved for a pack of cheese doodles. Pretty sure it's not just drug dealers and strippers that have a spare toonie available for coffee.
That's up there with the guy that slowly bumbles through self checkout machines with over $100 of groceries.
Some people sure seem fine with inconveniencing others, and that really grinds my gears.

Why would I carry cash when I don't have to? I have the option of paying debit so I pay with debit. Plus, my savings plan rounds up and banks to the next buck for me so its an easy way to save extra without really noticing.

And now you're trying to make the argument about something that I didn't comment on. Bravo.

Yes, because someone paying with debit is a personal attack on you. Its an option for payment so people will use it. Transactions take as long as they take. Twenty to thirty seconds more than you would have taken shouldn't ruin your day. If it does you should try rubbing one out at intervals throughout the day because you're strung tighter than a 12 string.
Try the decaf and take a breath.

What grinds my gears is the Fan trying to force-feed MMA into their programming over the last few months. Is there really this much demand out there for this?
MMA, Baseball, Lacrosse....starting that stretch of the year where it gets pretty rough listening to sports radio.

Sorry that I offended you for not liking people that hold up lines. People just need to be more considerate of others is all. Take a deep breath, it'll all be alright.

I'm not sure that's the point though. At the end of the day, many people don't carry cash. I use debit for everything. I'm not going to start carrying cash just so you can get out of the line 20 seconds earlier. That's just silly.

Yes, I was totally telling you to like people that hold up lines. Wait. No, I wasn't... I was telling you that debit transactions are a part of regular everyday life and that you should learn to deal with it.

I agree that there is a general lack of consideration for others. I'm not mad about it. You are. I try not to sweat the small stuff and debit transactions are definitely in that category.

If I have cash, I pay with cash. Otherwise I will pay debit. I'm not at the bank/ATM nearly enough to always have cash on me. Should me and the other three people have to go 10 minutes out of our way to get cash so that you can save the extra 5 seconds it takes per person to use debit?

Sometimes if I know there is someone really impatient in line, I have a casual chat with the cashier, see how their day is going, you know, gab a bit.
It's because I'm a terrible person.

I don't really use cash, but I pretty much never use my debit card either.
Credit cards give you better protection against fraud, and most of them offer some sort of rewards system so you can build up miles or get cash back. Unless you're the type that can't trust themselves with credit, I think it's a smarter way to go.

No anger here either. Just tired of the general "I'm doing it this way, everyone else can just deal with it" attitude. Maybe I am a little outdated about the debit card thing since it doesn't take forever to get approved like it used too, but the general attitude is what gets me. Just like the self checkout example I posted on the last page, or the left lane warrior example that gets posted at least once a week here. Or even worse, the people that don't even think about others, like that "chatty chihuahua" on trains thing someone else mentioned earlier.

They are using debit because they do not have cash as having cash requires you to visit an ATM or bank. Doing so takes much more time and resources than just using debit. You are the one expecting everyone else to inconvenience themselves greatly so you can save 1 minute every time you have to stand in line. It is not the same as being a left lane warrior as those people are genuinely intent on inconveniencing others.

And actually, I have to say, this line specifically has always bothered me quite a bit. It's primarily for two reasons.
A. Sorry man, chances are, you're definitely not. I've never heard someone say that and ACTUALLY be a "best customer." They're usually unrecognisable.
B. Every move that has the potential to turn some people off usually has a much higher upside when undertaken by successful companies. They might lose you, but they're probably making way more money anyways, so whatever.
Not that you should keep shopping there if you're unhappy, but the whole "take that! Retailer!" schtick is really only something customers use to make themselves feel better.

What really GMG about Safeway is how since they don't have the Club Card anymore, they require you to show your grocery receipt to get the gas rebate. Who carries around their grocery receipt with them all the time? It's not like I'm getting gas every time I go grocery shopping.

Don't think Ive bought gas there since that change. I'm sure it's temporary and they'll find a way to bring pay at the pump back, but until then it's like I'm buying gas in the '90s again.

~30% of the permit parking spaces on my street have been converted to zipcar only parking. FUUUUUUUUUUU! Impossible to find a spot as it is. Jimmies level = rustled.
