Travel costs, building availability and questions about the ability to sell out back to back games in the same barn - all reasons why they didn't go to a true best of 3
.
The league has to manage its growth carefully. The playoff format changes have provided huge excitement and the fans have for the most part loved it. Is it perfect - no - but a league like this is all about taking steps forward.
If they could have they would have gone best of 3 - it isn't an option for where the league is right now.

I asked Pat Steinberg if Sportsnet was going to pick up the Finals. He said they couldn't because of changes to the NLL's TV strategy. No idea what that means exactly, but not a smart decision by the league.
Best of three could work on a Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday format, but the NLL is ultimately a minor league, and that makes drawing fans a bit more challenging midweek or with games that close together.

Plus with players having job/school commitments, some of which are tough to get out of - mid-week games are simply not an option.
I think it has been a positive change. The one and done format allowed bad teams to get through. This gives the better teams more than once chance. Rochester took advantage - Edmonton did not.

I think I'd rather the division finals were still sudden death (even though that would have meant Calgary likely would have lost since the one game would be in Edmonton), but the final a best of three then. It would take the same amount of time. Flip side is that it drags the final out over three weeks.

Oh look! NOW TSN cares about the Alberta teams. TSN2 will air Saturday's game at the Dome.

Tickets are selling fast, slim pickins left on ticketmaster. I wonder if the bleeders get open for sales on Saturday.

Lower bowl is pretty much sold out except for the odd single seats. Upper bowl is almost full too.

With the walk up crowd I wouldn't be surprised to see this game sold out.

“It’s getting better,” Snider insisted. “The team of people that I’ve had working on me has been second to none in my career. From Dr. (Ian) Auld to Pat Clayton to Shad Richea with the Flames to Sean Hope-Ross, our strength coach . . . we’ve been working our asses off the last three weeks to get ready for this. Looking forward to practice on Friday night and seeing how it is. See where we’re at. But I’m feeling a lot better than I did three weeks ago, that’s for sure.”

“Faceoffs are the hardest thing I do,” he noted. “It’s a lot harder to take a faceoff against a guy like (Rochester’s) Dylan Evans than it is to play a full shift of D or run transition. If the opportunity presents itself and I’m ready to go on Saturday morning, I’m sure it’ll be a game-time decision for Curt and they’ll collectively make the best decision for the team.
