I think you're OK with Jackson - at least it's spelled correctly. The only good reason for naming your kid Jaxxon is if he has a brother named Jaxxoff.

Doubt it. I think it sounds "too feminine." People are loathe to give boys names that sound too female, though they often give girls names that sound more masculine.

Wacky names are a popular topic in New Zealand (mostly because of the high rate of teen pregnancies). Now and since 1995, new parents have to register their baby's name and have it approved, and if it is rejected it goes on a list of banned names. Here's an article explaining it. The best part is that a couple named their child "Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii" and were court ordered to change her name.

Just had twin girls and went a little old school with names; Adelaide & Emalene. Didn't see these names on the list, which gives me hope we have started off on the right foot.

I can only hope that it was a bad typo of "Lana" or "Alan". Also, I think Anil is a common ethnic name. It's possible some of those banned names are just ethnic names that coincide with unfortunate English words.

This. I work with a guy named Anis. It's actually pronounced "Ah-neece" but most people don't know that and it has definitely made for some awkward moments on a few conference calls.

The argument that Brayden (which is a variant on Braden/Brady), not Aiden, really throws it for me. Arguing Brayden/Kayden/Haydon are all Aiden is a bit of a stretch just because they have the same sound.

My wife and I are having a baby girl this fall and i think we are going to go with Macy for her name. I like that its not overly popular but it's not a crazy name.

You and your daughter are going to get tired of people commenting that her name is the same as the department store. Personally I wouldn't do it. Even without the department store issue it's not a nice sounding first name for a girl or boy in my opinion.

Yeah, is there a more conventional name you could go with that would lend itself to using Macy as a nickname? That's probably what I'd want to do if I had my heart set on calling a kid Macy.

Yes, Aidan (correct spelling) and Brady/Braden have different etymologies. But I think the author's points are valid: a) looking at the popularity list without any further analysis leads to misleading conclusions, and b) it makes perfect sense to group names by sound family because of the trend of essentially making up names or choosing non-standard spellings.
