I wouldn't worry about it too much. Figured 5 & 6 would be Dal Colle & Ehlers.

Who cares what the hockey news says about anyone that publication is hot garbage.
Personally I am hoping for one of the big 4 or Dal Colle but Ritchie is the type of player this organization can use as well

Corey Pronman @coreypronman
Draisaitl's 4 points at the WC as an 18 YO ties him with Malkin, Tomas Jonsson, MacKinnon, Evander Kane, Kirk Muller, and Hawerchuk

This draft could go in any direction now, you might as well have the top four spots picked out of a hat.
I thought there was no way Ekblad could fall to us, but now I'm not so sure.

Flames do have a specific player in mind they would love to have with that pick, but unsure of if they will get him at 4. Depends on what teams before them do.
Boomer asked if there was a guy in the top 6 they wouldn't draft. Conroy says no. In years past there were guys in the top tier that weren't fits for the Flames they took off the list. Conroy does say they did remove some players from their draft list in the next 14 ranked prospects.

I can't see the flames saying no to anybody in the top 4. Yes they probably like Ritchie but would they pass up Reinhart or Bennett for him? I can't see it.

The Tomas Jonsson who was on the Islanders when they won all the cups?

Anthony Stewart is not fair, he reminds me more of a young Chris Dingman. But he does seem truculent.

So say Ekblad and the 2 Sams are both gone come the 4th pick. Do you really see us passing on Draisaitl, Dal Colle or Ehlers? I don't. And if we believe the rumours that Edmonton are taking Draisaitl, then we get one of the Sams. I think the likelihood of us taking Ritchie over what we will likely have available is slim.

If Florida trades out of that top pick though, it's likely Draisaitl for us for sure. The Sam's will go 1/2 and then the Grease will take Ekblad.

"I think there is probably a consensus on the top five, but I think there might be 30 different lists of what order," Treliving said.

I would do it if it was super cheap, but it won't be. If it was Colorado's second and our fourth, sure. If it was a prospect like Agostino/Knight plus our 4th ... sure. I think it will cost more, and it's just not worth it in my opinion.
Our second plus 4 is too much as it seems there are some really nice d-men in our second pick range.

Looks like a 6th caught someone's eye. Besides the German, who had a good WC?

That's true, I just find it less likely. It seems, from the limited murmurings we've heard, that teams don't think he's "the man", just really good. Not sure if he's the D-man you make the move for.

The dissident voice is the loudest.... Ekblad has been a name for the past 4 years. Its been somewhat common for scouts to get "bored" of watching a player that they start to have expectations for growth that doesn't come.... saying that, I have never watched Ekblad play and don't really have any idea, but its really ahrd to get a gauge of this. Then again, the last player who scouts really got bored of was Jay Bouwmeester who actually did fall.

I actually don't think it's a "bored of him" situation like Reinhart has. I feel he's actually more regarded this year than last as a result of his offensive game improving and there's still mumblings out there that he's not a franchise D man.

I disagree. I would do it in a heartbeat.
Even though some are saying that Ekblad may not be a franchise defenceman, and his ceiling maybe a #2 defenceman that is no reason not to acquire him.
When is the next time we will get a chance to get a 6'4" defenceman that can play a 200ft game? How much does it take to get that player via trade?
How much does it cost to get that player via free agency?
This is still a top end defenceman, and if we have to trade the 34th pick to get that player, it is totally worth it.

Is the cost worth a potential top line center + another prospect for a guy that is potentially a number 2?
I don't think it is. We're going to get someone really good without spending anything.

I think that player Conroy is talking about is Ekblad.
