Maybe Microsoft will finally let Rare out of their pigeonhole and do something other than Kinect mini games.

Rare is only Rare in name nowadays. The studio has almost no ties to the success they had with Nintendo all those years ago.

People looking for them to do anything worthwhile will always be disappointed. There's a reason why they've been working on avatar trash for years - they're not a good studio. The creativity behind the success with Nintendo, founders Tim and Chris Stamper, left the studio almost a decade ago.

^ you are probably right but these layoffs apparently included people like Chris Sutherland, Gavin Price, Chris Allcock and Mark Stevenson. These guys worked on Rare games for more than a decade (20 years for Sutherland apparently).

There have been leaks about dozens of games that Microsoft has cancelled at Rare. Nothing but Kinect sports from Rare since 2008 - at least these guys will be free to work on bigger and better things.

Sony has announced it will roll out the private beta of PS Now to PlayStation 4 systems starting tomorrow - which means today.

If you aren't in the beta yet, you can still register since the invite pool will keep expanding. Sony plans to support it this year on PS4, PS3, Vita, and some 2014 Bravia TVs. The service is planned to launch this summer. When it does launch, Sony plans to offer hundreds of games, and we've seen some indication that you'll be able to rent them as well.

Can someone explain Playstation Now?

If I understand it right, it let's you stream a game instead of it playing on your system. Why is this beneficial?

It's how backwards compatibility will work. You will be able to play PS3 games and other past consoles via PS Now on your PS4. Mind you you are still on hook for the purchase of said games so it sucks if you already own them.

Why not just play it on your ps3 instead of paying for a streaming service? I'm just confused with the attention it's getting. I can't find the hook

I was under the impression only US registered PSN accounts would get into the beta.

You are correct, doh! (But they have said previously that it should come in the summer).

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/...arts-tomorrow/

Sorry, we don’t have anything to announce on Canada right now, the Beta is mainland US only. We are listening to feedback however and are exploring other territories.

For a lot of people like myself, we don't have a PS3. Could we go out and buy a relatively cheap PS3 now and pick up titles on the cheap? Sure. I don't want to spend $100+ on a PS3 right now though when I have a PS4.

When there are titles that are only on the PS3 that I'd want to play as well down the road, streaming could make a lot of sense depending on the pricing structure.

Pricing structure hasn't been revealed yet. If you could pay a small fee to play your old PS3 games that you already own (verified by disc inserting into PS4 for example), that would be phenomenal as well. Imagine never having to switch discs again for your PS3 games and just have them all available on one console.

So they essentially had to match the PS4 exactly, or else.

I'm in a reverse situation, My PS3 died right after buying a few games I wanted to play like Dark Souls 2. I picked up the PS4 but really want to play the PS3 games without buying another PS3 but at the same time I would just have to rebuy the PS3 games so its almost worth just buying another PS3 .. . . . stupid ps3

Personally still love the Kinnect. Love that I can be 20 feet away making dinner and turn the machine on, get it to TV, turn it to a channel etc etc etc all without having to break my stride or hunt for a controller or whatever. I like being able to substitute my guys by name in Fifa while I play so I don't break up the experience with a pause menu. And the kids love just dance or whatever it is. Kinnect has been more than worth it so far.

If you calibrate it correctly you don't get missed commands (I get maybe 1 or 2 a week). I think it is a fantastic addition.

Nah, the smart company didn't come up with a stupid strategy that needed adjusting in the first place.
