But they are also better off because he was here.

Gretzky has made some weird decisions since retiring, but hiring MacLean to run an NHL team would probably be the worst.
I'd rather have Ron MacLean as a GM than Doug.

Your entire team would be people from PEI

EE you've been here at CP for a long time so you should know that people tend to ruin a thread by talking about something else all the time.
I am actually in for Gretzky as Caps President job. Good PR for them. Not so sure about MacLean though. Him, Milbury and Snow might be the worst GM ever.

I can say as a "Islander" that would not be good..
Brad Richards and Dion would be our 2 NHLers.

This is horrible, this idea.

I'm not a fan of giving Maclean another GM job but he has had some success as a coach. He led the underdog Panthers to the cup finals in 95/96.

I thought experienced NHL talent went to RSN to die. Go figure...

How exactly has our drafting improved dramatically? Take away Monahan who was the clear BPA besides Nichushkin and the jury is still out.

Why the hate for Doug Maclean? I dare say he knows far more about the game than 99.9% of CP'ers and more than a few current GM's (MacT,Snow, Nonis and T.Murray come to mind.)
Most of the time being a GM of an expansion team with a cheap owner is a death sentence, lets see what he can do with an actual team with a farm system.

This move will definitely bring a Stanley Cup to the franchise. It's no longer a question of if, but rather how many.
