Flames should sign Chris Thorburn.

30 years old, 6'3" 230lbs, right winger, shoots right.

Can actually skate pretty well for a big guy, plays extremely physical and can actually play a little bit for a 4th liner / bottom sixer.

He's not as good of a fighter as McGrattan, but a better hockey player.

Unless you plan on David Jones leaving the team, sure I'll take a flyer on Thornton. Otherwise, we have Hudler, Colborne, David Jones and McGrattan as our RWers.

Would the Flames be interested in Brian Boyle?

Wolf - Boyle - McGrattan as our 4th line.... Talk about truculence.

My targets, unordered are

Winnik, Fayne, Bonino, Orpik, Callahan, Niskanen, Vrbata, Boyle, Brent, Engelland, Greiss, Peters, Gustavsson

The only forwards we should be signing are ones that are young or veterans that are truculent/strong work ethic/leader.

We could use some defensive help and also sign a backup goalie

I like Emery - Flames would have an enforcer on the ice an entire game. Good protection for the kids.

If outside of Backs - Monahan - Stajan & we don't have an NHL graduate from the AHL out of camp I'm down with it. Most of our center prospects are in more of a top six role outside of Arnold and I'm like 95% sure him and Johnny will be playing a lot of minutes in all roles the top 6 on the AHL to start the season. Hopefully with Poirier or Ferland on RW.

You'd have the undisputed champ, the mysterious psychotic foreigner and the troll giant on the same line. Watch the kids play as physical as they like.

What about signing Konopka? Pretty sure he's bulked up recently…

Instead of UFA's we should focus on bad contracts from other teams firsts and then worry about them.

I wonder what Treliving's opinion of Tikhonov is?

It looks like he's signed for one more year in Russia, so it might not be an option until next year, and he might be happy staying over there forever, but he's having a great World Championships this year.

I don't know what the reasons are that he decided to leave the Coyotes, whether it was issues with coaching or management. Treliving should have a good read on him.

I'd sign Nikolai Kulemin for the second line. Talented two-way player whom the Leafs are going to let walk because Carlyle doesn't like him, same as Clarke MacArthur. Offer two years at $3.5-4 million per, and watch him make Toronto look dumb.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Flames correct their mistake with Anton Stralman either, but he's going to get paid big-time. Already rejected a three-year, $9 million extension. Whoever misses out on paying Matt Niskanen more than he's worth will probably give Stralman $4-5 million a year.

Getting Reinhart is fine. Trading Stralman away to make room for such luminaries as Adam Pardy, Aaron Johnson and Staffan Kronwall is not fine.

Also, if we're talking draft picks, the second-rounder we gave up to get Stralman initially turned into Brandon Saad.

I'd like Vrbata, Komarov, Greiss, and a defenseman that shoots right por favor. Spend ~13 million per year on the whole bunch

I'd rather not pay Greiss. He's had good stats but played on the Sharks and Coyotes. Every time I watch him he doesn't look that good and the a Coyotes collapsed this year when he had to take over for Smith.

Ducks' beat writer Eric Stephens:

Quote:
@icemancometh: Not surprisingly, Jonas Hiller said he figured Game 7 relief appearance was final game in a Ducks uniform.

@icemancometh: Hiller: "Thinking about it kind of makes me feel sad because I had quite a few great years here."
I'm a big fan of Hiller, but would signing him take the wind out of Ramo's sails?
