Default Best Boxing Movie?

Watched Cinderella Man over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. I'd rent it just for Paul Giamatti's facial expressions, they alone were worth the rental price.

Got me thinking though, I now own Cinderella Man, Rocky, Raging Bull, and Million Dollar baby.. boxing movies are usually pretty darn good.

Anyone got any ideas on what they think are the best boxing movie ever made?

Hurricane is pretty good but it's not even close to Raging Bull.

Raging Bull.

Million Dollar Baby is awesome. I still haven't seen Cinderella Man.

Huge recommendation Hab, huge.

I was really put off by it because of Russle Crowe last year, getting arrested when it was released. Never went to see it in theatre and then it got lost in the shuffle until I finally decided to see it. It's a fantastic movie. For what an obnoxious person Russle Crowe is, the man is an amazing actor, ditto for Paul Giamatti who steals scenes at times.

Gladiator (the one with Cuba Gooding Jr.)... actually no, there are better boxing movies, but I thought I'd throw that name out there. I remember enjoying it back in the day.

I liked Cinderella Man. The guy who plays John Henry Louis is Canadian Cruiserweight champion Troy Ross (one of my boxing instructors).

Crowe bugs me as well, which is a shame because he is outstanding. That's probably the reason I haven't seen it. I'll have to borrow it from my Dad, I think he owns it.

An honourable mention goes out to a movie called Diggstown, with Lou Gossett Jr and James Woods. Great movie. Oilver Platt is terrific in a supporting role as well.

Cinderella Man is really great and the boxing sequences themselves are very well shot.

In terms of a boxing scene...the one in Snatch cannot be beat. Fantastic stuff.

People forget how great a film the original Rocky is.

Raging Bull did not float my boat but I fully admit that's my flaw. I probably need to watch it again.

When We Were Kings is a fantastic documentary about the Ali/Foreman fight. Worth seeing.

I agree with that one. Also, if you get the Fight Network (it's a fairly new channel) there are many good boxing documentaries on late at night.

i edited my post...raging bull is one of my all time faves. I put Rocky IV in terms of pure cheese entertainment factor. "I Must Break You!"...tell me that isn't pure gold

I recommend Cinderella Man, too. Paul Giamatti is great, and Crowe's at his best when he's playing dim-witted, oafish characters (this movie, and LA Confidential, as opposed to Gladiator and Beautiful Mind).

That's a documentary about Jack Johnson and it's a good show. The book it's based on/accompanied by is also pretty good. I tell ya, whitey was some racist a hunnerd years ago.

Raging Bull is one of the best boxing movies. On The Waterfront wasn't really a boxing movie but that was a great movie.
