What Gaudreau did there was awesome, but just imagine what he would have done had he not been tripped.

Johnny Hockey At WC
I'm excited for next year of course but I think 2015-2016 is going to be a big year for this organization. I'm not going to say the oiler line of "this is our year" cause that's not what that season will be at all. But I do think it will be the year that the young players take over as the core players of the team. Monahan will be in his 3rd season and will be the team's top centreman... This year's first round pick will likely be playing his rookie season on the team... Wotherspoon and sieloff will probably turn into solid NHL defensemen that season... And I think gaudreau and baertschi will establish themselves as top six forwards in the NHL. It's an optimistic outlook but I think most of those should happen that season.

The more I watch Gaudreau the more he reminds me of Nugent-Hopkins. Both slight and small, but extremely quick, with elite puck skills.

It's pronounced Guh-drow, but I don't think announcers will ever get it right.

http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/...04/apr11hb.php according to Hockey East it is pronounced GOO -dreau. Remember for french does not follow the same rules as English liturature . The proper way in English would actually be Gah Drew.
"Gaudreau (pronounced GOO-dreau), had a sensational season, posting 80 points to lead the nation in scoring while recording the highest point total in the last 11 seasons of college hockey. "
Edit: had I known he was a communications major I would have never worried This year if He would sign or not. Same degree future NFLers have taken just to get a easy ride on a college schedule scholarship .

In terms of pure talent and puck skills, those are the guys in Flames history.
Other guys were better players, or more complete games, or dominant in other areas. But in terms of passing and puck skills, those are the Flames to be measured against.

As a french speaking person, the correct pronunciation is Go-Dro. In french au and eau both make o sounds.

That's what I thought too, that's the way it traditionally should be pronounced anyway. But in the one Flames game he played in, the announcer mentioned the family says its actually GOO-dreau.

I thought it was like Parise.
I guess the family could pronounce it Goo-drow, but the proper way is Guh-drow.

If the family pronounces their name wrong, it's still wrong is it not?

I'll take your word for it but with the Americanization of names, the family can pronounce it however they like, even if it doesn't make sense and sometimes kind of grates.

A friend of mine has the last name Gaudreau. He was born in Quebec but raised in BC and doesn't have a noticeable accent. I asked him a while ago as we were talking about hockey. He said they pronounced their name Guh-drow.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Johnny's dad is French Canadien as he comes from a town right on the Quebec border so he may even be fluent in French, but now living in New Jersey, each to their own.

Ya I agree. It's like the french Jose (Jo-sey) with the spanish Jose (ho-sey). I'm sure way back when, it was sounded one way, but then location, culture and language altered it over the years.
I read somewhere that when the Gretzky's came from the Ukraine, it was actually Gretsky with an s. But there was a mix-up at immigration and ended up Gretzky with a z, now that's just how its spelled. Guaranteed the way Johnny Gaudreau's family pronounces it is a butchering of the proper way, from whenever they moved away from whatever french-speaking community they came from, to an english one. But if that's how they say it's pronounced, I'd say that's just what it is now for that family, even if it's linguistically incorrect. Especially if we're talking about generations of the Gaudreau's pronouncing it that way by this point.

Plus our first-rounder from 2015 might be on the 15-16 team, so there should be a number of young players to be excited about.
Imagine a young core of forwards in Matthew Barzal (for example), Sam Bennett (for example) to go with Granlund, Monahan, Poirier, Gaudreau, Klimchuk, Baertschi, with Jankowski potentially on the horizon. Yes, please. And that's without even mentioning the quality 3rd-liners in the pipeline.
Even if the Flames take a Hanifin or a Kylington instead of, say, Barzal or Dylan Strome in the '15 draft, finding skilled defencemen & forwards with size in the later rounds will be key. As others have said, having multiple picks in the 2nd-4th rounds especially will be necessary to address the weaknesses in the system.

Additionally, we only need 3 d-men for the next 3 or 4 years. Smid, Gio and Brodie are all good enough to take half the spots and be quality players in those positions. You can temporarily address this through free agency while you spam picks in hopes that when Gio starts slowing down, you have others coming up through the system at the same time.
