May I suggest East-central Alberta. Make sure you are on the Rogers network.

Kijiji buyers who don't understand that it's a cash only medium. No, I won't accept paypal and the fact that you're only willing to use that payment method is an immediate warning sign.

What bugs me is when a guy low balls you and says he will give 50 CASH. As if offering cash makes his offer better. It was only thing I was gaining to accept.

Finally getting around to painting our master bedroom only to realize we didn't buy enough paint for 2 two full coats.

No, I didn't measure beforehand, I went with my gut "yeah a gallon for 3 of the 4 walls should be good"

Roomates GRMG.

So I found out my room is moving out and I am only getting 14 days notice. What happened was, my roommate didn't realize I was home, and I overheard him I'm saying "Ya we can move in the the 1st of next month."

I confront the guy and ask him if he is moving out. He replies with, "Uhm, yeah..was gonna tell you tommorow...uh ...."

Anyways I'm not mad the guy is moving out. He is a complete dirt bag and I am glad to get rid of him. The only issue is that he owes me money. He owes me $100 for a bet he lost 3 weeks ago, and his share of the utilities for this month, which is about $150. So the guy owes $250. I seriously doubt he plans on paying me any of the money he owes, based on his plan to skip town without giving me notice, so I turned off the hot water tank and blocked his devices on the router. (He doesn't have the knowledge of how to turn either back on)

So his girlfriend comes over and tries to take a shower. The roommates asks me if I know anything about why the internet and hot water doesn't work and I give him the news that I will only turn both back on if he pays the money he owes me. He responded by calling me and ####### and that he isn't going to pay. Was this too passive aggressive? I don't know, but if he wants his stuff back on he has no choice but to pay.

That is a total d-bag move and borderline illegal. Forget passive aggressive, you're way beyond that.

Eh not illegal. I live here and everything is in my name. He has a written lease saying he will give a month notice. He was planning to take off sight un seen. What he was doing is illegal.

I dunno, sounds like you escalated the situation without trying to solve it by talking to him first. To be honest, if I was your roommate and you did that to me, I'd tell you to suck it.

Sorry but what you did is not legal. He had a lease (so you say) so he obviously was a tenant and you can't just turn off his hot water just because he doesn't pay. There are legal steps for you to evict him and get your money back. Did you not take a deposit from him?

Yeah. It's hard to explain the lease situation. He originally lived in the same building as me, a year ago my previous roommate moved out and I asked him if he wanted to move in.

Anyways after I found out he was leaving I went and talked to the building manager (we live in an apartment that does month-month leases) to find out how he is able to leave without giving notice. He is informed me that this roommate NEVER signed onto my lease or payed a damage deposit. When he moved into my unit he was given his deposit back and never had to sign any papers. This was shocking to me because when he moved in here I asked the OTHER building manager (we have two of them) about the lease and she told me they did all the paper work.

So basically the guy was in here the entire time as an occupant NOT a tenant. So this is why he is basically able to move out at a moments notice and stick me with the rent and utilities. Which is what I figured he was doing. As he thought I was at work and I overheard him on the phone. And ya maybe I am being an ####### here but so this guy is being a bigger one. So basically there is no damage deposit to take from him.

edit-
And as an occupant he has the right to nothing.

I try to do that too, unfortunately the guy I sold it too then sold it to a kid that blew the engine and/or turbo. Half assed fixing it, I'm assuming it to be a different engine now which doesn't run right and leaks like crazy. I suspect a bent valve and looked like he even took out the oil pan once. Also replaced the nice expensive suspension I had with dirt cheap coilovers, gouged the $2000 wheels with numerous rock chips and curb rash, and now it's been through several different owners. The paint that I kept in mint condition now looks like crap. Faded, chipped, rusting.

It's like running into your best friend from school, only to find out that now he's addicted to crack and became an Oilers fan. Just absolutely heartbreaking.

Luckily the guy that has it now seems like a good kid who's fixed it up a bit again, and mentioned he wants to sell it soon so I'm considering buying it back.

With bell I found a nice hidden gem where I can go completely off the grid a few times a day. Little spot called red deer. Not sure what the name means but I believe it has Native American roots

Side note, if you turned that #### off on him without talking to him first you kinda have it coming to you if he bails at this point. Without establishing his intentions, you just look like an ass who jumped to conclusions (don't assume .. It makes an ass of u & me.. I apologize already for that one)
You expect payment for utilities -> utilities not provided -> no payment
Have to be willing to stick up for yourself and face the problem head on

You're getting awfully worked up over 250 dollars.

As far as the building management is concerned; he is an occupant and not a tenant. However he is your tenant; because he has a rental agreement with you. So if you left the apartment, he would have no rights with the building manager as he is an occupant.

I understand what you did, and why you did it. If you had just shut off the internet, that would have been fine. However turning off the hot water is something you are not allowed to do. That turns the legal corner from where you had a right to sue him for money owed for utilities; to now he could sue for being forced out.
