Things like that are why the overall product of the CBC was the best, they just got it.
To be fair CBC really has no other content to switch to after hockey is over. Yes I would rather watch the tribute, but my guess is that there are a lot of people in this nation that would like to see the sports highlights.

Their content is their own highlight show. They're in total control of it.

The CBC can jump to the National or a regional newscast or go to its post game show. I think most TSN viewers would not mind waiting for SportsCentre while the Selanne tribute was on.

I presume your talking about tsn. Again just because you and I are avid hockey fans, that would watch any tribute for any player , on any team in the nhl , does not mean the rest of the nation is. There a lot of Canadians that would take blue jays highlights over a player tribute that plays down south.

Again, that's a decision TSN has full control over though. Making decisions like that is part of the reason CBC just did it better.
TSN will run that same highlight show until noon EST the next day, but they still choose to cut away to it.

lol were you even waching? they cut the tribute to show highlights of the Kings/Ducks game for 10 minutes....and then showed the TAPED on ice interview

It's about having the most viewers stay on to watch their shows. Trust me they have done extensive research on what viewers tune into to watch and turn off to watch. CBC biggest ratings during the week is hockey night in Canada. Of course they are going to ride it out to the end. Tsn will lose more viewers showing the tribute. More viewers would probably turn to sportsnet to watch sports highlights.
Just because they show highlights until noon the next day does not mean that viewers will tune in to watch it at other times. Just like the news there are reasons why they show certain shows at certain times.

Guess what is on the first page of TSN.ca
they dropped the ball
Yes I was watching and I wanted to see the tribute. I will say again, they will lose more viewers staying with the tribute than they would changing to sports center.
This might come as a surprise to some, but not everybody is as hockey mad as us.
So another team choked while leading the series. First it was Pittsburgh, then Boston and now Anaheim. All of them favorites to win the series and all lost in Game 7. Chicago better finish LA in 5 or 6 games or else Los Angeles will take the series.
Good on Sutter and the boys. I really thought they are done after that lost in Game 5.

The CBC has done extensive research as well and has big ratings for "The National" from Sunday to Friday. The CBC in the past used to end HNIC very quickly to air the National instead of show post game interviews and commentary. The CBC lost more viewers showing the news as those viewers switched to Sportsnet and TSN to watch interviews and analysis. There were many complaints because of this and the CBC subsequently changed.
