Just curious off-topic esque question, has there ever been a case where a player opted to go to the farm first as opposed to the main squad? I don't know why I thought of it but, I wonder if the player knew more about what's best for themselves over what management thought, or is there a contractual litigation that prevents this?

Thought it'd be a good character choice especially if they believed it best they stick to the farm for a bit for getting acclimated to the pros, build strength first rather than rush to the big squad?

Interesting thought but not rational.

That's like saying you have been given the opportunity to become President of a company and you elect to be only a regular employee. These players have dreamed about playing in the NHL for all of their lives, they won't give up the opportunity because who knows, they may never get another crack at it.

The money is good too and if a player doesn't have confidence in his abilities, it really doesn't look good.

Hartley and Burke aren't going to keep a guy in the NHL until he can play a complete game. They showed that already with Baertschi. Treliving believes in giving guys lots of time to develop. I doubt how fans feel about it will enter into the decision.

Fair enough and totally agree regarding the confidence thought, but sometimes you have people in general who understand and grow to a higher ceiling by seeing all aspects of something rather than skip ahead. Of course this is just a random thought that came to mind.

if they say they know they have the ability to excel in the bigs but want to take the farm approach and prove themselves first or gain experience, I mean in our case, Ward could be a huge factor for gaining experience. But then again they could always just meet him regardless if he's on the farm or the main club hahah I dunno I'm just rambling

You will see players make those choices in lower (amateur) levels of hockey. For example, playing an extra year as the go to guy in midget AAA instead of in and out of the lineup and a few minutes a night in the WHL. You will see it some anyway.
You would never see it in the pros

Gotcha, I've never had the luxury to play any level of hockey... so I've never known how even the lower levels operate so it's good to hear these sorts of things.

Hopefully, gonna try and get into some local teams just to play around and such, we'll see how that goes hahah.

I don't get it, it's against a horrible team and they limit Monahans ice time to 5 minutes?
He's as good if not better than some of the players, yet he's the ONLY player on the team getting less than 8 minutes a game.
He's put SOG, got a point, played a good two way game is a +2. Grrr.

I lied Scheifele actually has less. I guess playing at all is a positive. But still, vs teams you should 99% win against, you think they'd give some ice to some of the younger players.

On the plus side it's made my decision to watch the US play over Canada pretty easy.

How about that Tim Thomas though lol. Almost 20 goals in under 100 shots.
Probably hurting the offense a bit too knowing you can't give up any chances or the old man is gonna let em in.

Posted this in the Johnny specific WC thread but it belongs here too. That shift he had today on the power play was unreal. He quarter backed the whole shift, chased down and recovered the puck after a turn over, and then made a brilliant diving assist:

Chris Peters @chrismpeters
Team USA captain Justin Abdelkader has been suspended one game by IIHF for kneeing incident. He'll miss tomorrow's game vs. Finland.

Chris Peters @chrismpeters
More bad news for Team USA.... USA Hockey announces D Jacob Trouba is out for the rest of the tournament for "precautionary reasons."

Chris Peters @chrismpeters
Trouba was Team USA's ice time leader in their first three games. He had two goals and an assist. Big loss.

Trouba seems really injury prone. If he can stay healthy, Ghana going to be really good for a long time though.

Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
With Burrows out, Schenn and MacKinnon get a new left-winger. It's Jonathan Huberdeau. New #TeamCanada fourth line: Monahan-Scheifele-Ward.

Very big game for the US. Tied for fourth in the group with Finland (Finland holds the tiebreaker as of today) and only the top 4 in each group go to the medal rounds.
