Genie obviously has the talent, just needs to work on the consistency a bit more. And that second serve is really bad, every player is sitting on it two or three steps in from the baseline.

That was a disappointing result for Genie, I thought when she broke in the 3rd set that she was going to take the match.. Oh well and I agree with the Senator, that 2nd serve needs to have both more pace and spin.
Canada drew Colombia for this fall's Davis Cup action (Sept 12-14). Would it be too much to ask to have them come to Calgary?
They'll probably end up in Vancouver or Montreal.
Quote:
Canada and Colombia are familiar foes from the Americas Zone days.
They met in 2007 at the Stampede Corral in Calgary, and played on that skating rink of a Taraflex surface the Canadians used to favour at home. But although the Colombians had Giraldo and Falla back then, they were a lot younger. The Canadians were a completely different team, with Frank Dancevic and Fred Niemeyer playing singles, and Niemeyer teaming up with Daniel Nestor for doubles.
I assume if Canada is healthy this should be a (easy) win?
Canada will likely face this quad:
Santiago Giraldo (singles) ranked 84th
Alejandro Falla (singles) ranked 70th
Juan Sebastian Cabal (doubles) ranked 31st
Robert Farah (doubles...born in Montreal and still has family there too) ranked 32nd
I think Canada should be fine to retain their World Group spot, but I guess you never know. Like you said, injuries will be key.
who out of the so-called Big Four (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray) is the toughest matchup for you, and why?
I have struggled with Rafa the most. It was much closer the last time we played, in Miami, than any previous match. I believe he is the toughest of the four because he is unique. No matter who you play in the previous round or can practice with, no one plays like Rafa, so you have to adjust every match. His left-handed play, the amount of spin he puts on the ball and his competitive drive make him very tough to play against. But I am getting closer to him.

Milos through to the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo (first every clay court QF appearance in a masters 1000 event). Next match against Stan 'the Man' Wawrinka will be tough. Good luck Milos.
A bit congrats to our tennis ladies! They are off to the top eight World Group in the Fed Cup for the first time ever. I thought Wozniak might be down and out after her last injury, but she's better, faster and stronger. It really bodes well. Congrats girls

Good stuff...I never was a Woz fan, but she's a longtime Fedcup warrior, and hopefully Genie is still able to find time as her WTA obligations get heavier. Speaking of, did anyone see this?
I don't even understand what this was about...some sort of inside joke? Hopefully, because at face value it just seems weird at best, and possibly tone-deaf at worst.
Federer withdraws due to birth of another set of twins, this time boys. I chuckle at the idea that if his first set of twins (girls) and second set follow in his footsteps, you have all sorts of possible team composition in the making (doubles, mixed, singles).
I haven't seen any of Milos' clay exploits this season...any Canadian beating a high ranked European on the red stuff is great news. is he playing in the Sharapova "cow on ice" style where he's not sure how to slide perfectly, but just bashes the cover off the ball to get through?

I meant to right "win" instead of "will". Sorry folks.
I like the way you describe that! I haven't watched all of his matches, but he's looked very poised. You can tell he's really working on the mental aspect of his game.
