A press conference to discuss details of the city’s agreement to bring the American Hockey League affiliate of the Calgary Flames to the Civic Center is expected to be held either Thursday of Friday at the Civic Center’s Heritage Hall, said Mayor John “Jack” Diamond.

City officials were still waiting on Tuesday for confirmation of when the Flames management would be available.

Diamond said city officials will provide at least 24 hours notice of the press conference so that the public and members of the city Common Council can plan to attend.

Never made it east to plattsburgh. Spent most of my time up near Potsdam,Ogdensburgh, Watertown and the areas listed above.

But Glens Falls Mayor John “Jack” Diamond is looking ahead to next season and hoping the city’s new AHL team will go far in the 2015 playoffs.

To encourage the chances of that happening, city officials have agreed that if the team makes the playoffs, the city will rebate a portion of the payment the Calgary Flames, which are relocating their AHL affiliate to Glens Falls, will pay for advertising sign rights at the Glens Falls Civic Center, Diamond said in an interview at City Hall on Thursday.

“It’s kind of an incentive,” Diamond said.

The incentive is one of the features of a contract, which he will summarize at a press conference with the Flames management at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Heritage Hall in the Glens Falls Civic Center, Diamond said.

The piece saying they will pay the Flames is a little sensationalist, but I guess that is the media. It sounds like a small rebate for each round they advance to that would be covered by concession revenues.

Under the incentive clause, the team will receive a “small payment” for each round of the playoffs it makes, Diamond said.

The Adirondack Phantoms, which made the Civic Center home ice the past season, did not have the rebate incentive in their contract, and did not make the playoffs at all, Diamond said.

Diamond said the rebate, if the team makes the playoffs, would be more than offset my concession revenues from playoff games.

It's an interesting concept to try and keep the parent club motivated to keep the AHL team competitive.
