[Rumour] Edmonton to Draft Draisaitl

This could have gone in a number of threads here but I feel like this deserves its own.

This was posted and still is right now on their Official website. What an overall fail by their social media team.

Edmonton is no good.

Would be funnier (and more deserving of its own thread) if the article outright said "Oilers soon to be draft pick Leon Draisaitl" or something along those lines. Edmonton is no good.

I would have said that they are just saying this to throw us or other teams off since it's just a rumor, but considering that Edmonton has parties when getting the first round pick, this is probably what will occur. Draft day is a holiday for the Oilers. Congrats Leon, they are going to give you top minutes and hurt your development.

While he could become a great player, I feel there is more bust potential with him as opposed to other players who produced at a similar clip but have yet to fill out, and don't have the speed issue. If Edmonton is set on taking him, then I have no qualms. Though still an idiotic move on their part if word around management is indeed that Draisaitl is a lock to be an Oiler.

Personally, I'm praying one of Bennett/Reinhart falls. I feel like strength down the middle/RW and high end offensive skill is the largest organizational need right now, seeing as how well our blue line has come along over the past year with the acquisition of Smid, and emergence of Gio as a top guy. Of course we'll still need a big piece there, but our depth is looking good with Wotherspoon, Kanzig and Sieloff.

I would love Draisaitl, however, I have a feeling that he'll be a sleeper top 2 pick this year like Barkov was last year.

I would laugh if Ekblad and Draisaitl were taken at 1&2 leaving them with Reinhart and Bennett. I would almost guarantee MacT would try to trade the pick.

Keep in mind Draisaitl is being touted in a few places as the top prospect in the draft, so this could be a doubly bad fail if he isn't even available at #3.

I may be giving the Oil too much credit here, but maybe they're just listing him as a player to keep an eye on because he's ranked close to their draft position? I mean this certainly isn't confirmation that they're drafting him and one has to wonder if Reinhart or Ekblad played in this tournament would they be tracked as well?

A Joe Thornton/Anze Kopitar hybrid sounds pretty damn good to me. I wouldn't be jumping for joy if the Oilers got this kid.

It's not so much that not liking Draisaitl, it's liking the Sam's better. Having a pair of Monahan's or getting a Matt Duchene type would be awesome.

I'd be thrilled with either Reinhart or Bennett. I'd be very happy with Draisaitl.

I would be jumping for joy because that means one of the 3 prospects I want the flames to draft far more than Drasaitl will be available to them at 4. Edmonton taking this kid opens up te flames to draft one of the Sam's most likely

Honestly how does that happen? He's not anyone's property yet and I don't understand how he could end up on the Oilers roster on their official web page linked to NHL.com. Even if he's at the top of their draft list someone at the Oilers website made a conscious decision to add him to their roster. That organization is so bizarre.

See, what I don't get is the chasm that seems to have formed in the minds of some between the triad of Bennett, Ekblad and Reinhart on the one hand, and Draisaitl on the other. As near as I can tell, the professional scouting reports and rankings have the top four (or five?) VERY close to one another. I have a preference on who I would prefer the Flames to pick, but I can't really justify it as a significant preference based on any substantial gap, because there does not seem to be much of a gap at all.
