Sharks keep Doug Wilson and coaching staff. Roster changes coming.
David Pollak @PollakOnSharks
#SJSharks owner Plattner expected to issue statement shortly. Indications are GM and coaching staff to remain in place.

San Jose Sharks majority owner Hasso Plattner today released the following statement:
“I am very disappointed in the way our team finished the 2013-14 season. Gaining a 3-0 series advantage and being unable to advance is a major blow to our organization and fan base. Our teams have been consistently built to go deep into the playoffs and this goal won't change.
Doug Wilson and I have met over the past two weeks. He has shared his support of the coaching staff, as well as his recommended changes to our team’s roster, and he has my complete support moving forward.
I want to thank our extremely loyal fans and partners for their continued support and to let them know that we are not satisfied with the status quo of the last several seasons.
I am confident that with the proposed changes, Doug and his staff will build a team we can all be proud of.”

Smart choice. Would've been stupid to let them go. Got to get some clutch players though.

I call B.S on the clutch players crap. They have good players who can perform, they are just poorly coached.

Theyve iced an elite team just about every year since Wilson has been running things, and never missed the playoffs either. He's also retooled on the fly successfully a couple of times now as well.
Just because they haven't won the Cup doesn't mean they've accomplished nothing.
I'd trade the last ten years of Flames hockey for the last ten years of Sharks hockey in an instant.

I think Todd Mclellan is a great coach. Not entirely sure on their management though.

I was not talking about him, it is the coaching staff that needs to be tanked.

Their regular season (and actually playoff records despite being without a cup) say differently. They have been one of the most dominant teams of the past decade, and haven't been able to get over that final push. The coach is not on the ice giving the effort, they can only do so much. And too me it looks like they've both given the team the necessary tools to compete for the big prize, but it's ultimately up to the players to win.

One of the worst in the NHL, that roster has underachieved brutally under him. Especially in the playoffs.

Exactly, he can't get his players to turn it up come playoff time. Who cares how good they have been in the regular season. People blame Thornton, blame Marleau, blame Boyle, blame the players but there is oodles of talent there and it up to the coach to get them to gear it up.

You seem mad, did McLellan beat up your dad or something?

No, just calling it the way I see it. I guess if your end goal is to make the playoffs and always fail then McLellan is one of the best. I always thought it was the Cup that really mattered.

People seem to think firing the coaching staff is some kind of voodoo-mind trick that will make them better in the playoffs. I've got news for you, the sharks were one hell of a hockey team this year, and their coaching staff deserves tons of credit for that.
Sometimes the puck just doesn't go into the net enough. I feel like people sometimes think that by firing the coaching staff they can somehow act on their frustrations and change things. The fact is that luck is a huge factor in hockey, and if a team makes it to game 7 while playing good hockey, they could have won the series. Firing the coaching staff in a situation like this is like getting someone else to flip the coin because it didn't land the way you want it to.
If a coach can get good hockey out of a team, keep the coach.

McLellan made some noticeably bad decisions with his 4th line taking so many offensive zone draws in the LA series. Instead of letting Niemi close out the Kings, he went to Stalock for game 6.
Vlasic going down probably hurt the Sharks the most. I'm not a big fan of firing a coaching staff when they make the playoffs, especially with home ice advantage.
It's likely the best move to keep Wilson and the coaches.

By this logic 29 coaches are failures, 13 of those are colossal failures, and then Edmonton.

Sharks could suffer the same fate as Vancouver if they change the coaching staff. That has been a solid team for years. I think they need a roster shakeup but keeping the coach and management is a solid move
