I once got 8 emails in one day with read receipts about the status of a copier on the floor.
-Copier not working
-repair man called
-repair man here
-can't figure it out
-working
-please don't make colour copies if you don't have to
-call X if copier acts up again
-thanks for your patience

I always send back several emails asking about using the copier, asking why it isnt working, asking if they can go check to see if what I sent to it printed.
You know why I do that? I work from home all the time and I still get those emails from the office. I have asked to be taken off certain dist lists, hasnt happened yet...so I continue my crusade.

I guess it GMGs when people don't realize they can turn on "auto respond to read receipt requests".

What if I don't want them to have the satisfaction of knowing I read their stupid email?

Fair enough. I just don't see any advantage to doing that unless you are one of the people that lies about having received the email when asked.

Because I have to triage my emails. Sometimes I open them and at a glance determine that they are not a priority and then move on. If somebody sends a read receipt, I assume it is with intent and they are monitoring it. I don't need them getting all butthurt about me moving their information request to the bottom of the pile.

Can't you set it to automatically reject read receipts?

I agree with Misterpants and I'm not a dick. I just don't want the pressure of their expectation to answer. And I kind of figure it's none of their business when I read their email, as long as I'm responding to it within reason and handling it in the normal course of business. How I organize my day and emails isn't really a factor.

Now I know how the people that hate traffic gear grinders feel when they open this thread at certain times when it's on a traffic gear grinding discussion.
This is just insane. Just post after post about email receipts, it never ends. Seriously guys, how may things in this world can possibly be said about email receipts? I'm pretty sure you guys have said them all.

I hate people that use read receipts as a passive/aggressive way to try to force you to do something. "Didn't you reeeeeeeeeaaaaaadddd my email about how I need you to frazmuggle my chupacabra? Why haven't you dooooooooooooooonnnnnne it yet? I saw the read receipt, I know you know what I asked."
Also, I hate flameswin. Read receipt that, biznitch!

Ah Kijiji. I've actually had generally great success with that site, but tonight I got the run around. Supposed to go look at some shelves this guy was selling, already agreed on price and delivery and I get halfway to where he is and he cuts off all communication. Texts ignored, calls declined to voice mail.
I'm actually totally fine if someone just changes his mind, or I understand that, anyway. What I don’t understand is not letting the other person know that. Just send a text saying you don't want to sell anymore or even that they're sold. Just save me the wasted time and effort trying to get ahold of you.

I just interpret it as cowardice. Don't have the guts to talk to someone and tell them you've changed your mind, so just ignore their call.

Speaking of rest rooms..... Using the urinal and then hearing that shoe sticking to the floor sound as you walk out.
