He seems to be a pain to play against.
 Awesome.

Any other notes from the radio interview?

I know these have been answered, but they have all just been yes answers, thought I would share why they are all yes

- Yes, it is an ELC. But not that is not why it is 925k. That is the ELC max but according the the flames.nhl.com piece his salaries are actually 775k in the NHL and 70k in the AHL, so 150k of his contact are bonuses of some sort, so they will not count towards the cap floor.

- Yes, since it is an ELC it is a 2-way deal. All ELCs are 2-way contracts as per the CBA.

- Yes, he is only 24, he will not reach UFA status until he is 27.

- Yes, he is only 24 and players are eligible for the Calder trophy up until the season in which they turn 27 (I think, it could be 26 though)

I will be happy if this guy plays 4th line minutes and manages to get 15, 20 points.
40 points in 48 games is pretty good, makes me think if he can play 3rd line minutes too if he has to. I think he and McGrattan can have good chemistry... Now we just need to add Boyle from the Rangers and that would be the best 4th line ever.

happy with the signing, low risk to decent reward type deal.
is there another example of an undrafted player, who played out their development years in an euro league, brought over to the NHL in the mid 20s, who have been able to thrive in a bottom 6 role? Being a pain to play against and very physical in a euro league, which i presume aren't nearly as physical as the NHL, may be difficult to easily tranfer over to the NHL where players are likely bigger/stronger. So tempering my expectations on this....

Leo Komarov comes to mind. I'm sure there are others although most are drafted.

Michael Raffl fits this description, and had a really good season last year.

Five years in an Austrian league, then two years in Swe2 league, then 22 points in 68 games for the Flyers last year playing a bottom six role.

google translation of an interview that Wolf gave last night.

		| SPORT1: How did the Flames justified your interest?
Wolf: Calgary looking for great players who can do everything. They want to be bigger. Brian Burke, the coach, the repeatedly stressed in interviews. Therefore, they have approached me. I am a player who is big, can play hard, that is driving checks over, worst comes to the gate, while also shoot goals and can play passports - which is not typical for a power forward.
 |
I am assuming "play passports" means can "make passes". "worst comes to the gate" means "goes to the crease"

Komarov wasn't undrafted though.

A player has to be smart and a good skater to fit into the NHL. You can't play that role if you're behind the play at all, and a coach won't give you much time to adjust. No one is going to wait for a grinder to "find his game", he'll just get replaced.

Apparently Jamie Benn was on his team during the lockout and told Wolf that if he gave it a real shot he can make it.

I recall hearing that a while back, do you have a source for that by chance? I'm looking forward to see how he does over here, hopefully a 3rd line potential with upside maybe? |

But obviously his nickname should be The Hound. Without doubt.

“I’m going to North America to make it — that’s my point. I will try everything to make it happen.”

The brass at the Saddle-dome is hoping Benn — the captain of the Dallas Stars and a member of Canada’s golden group at the 2014 Sochi Olympics — is right about this guy.
