Slow death but I'm glad its over. Terrible last couple of seasons.
Season 5 has been on the level of seasons 1+2. 3 was hit or miss. 4 was mostly miss.
I considered myself as big a fan as any. More confused than angry that it was cancelled. Can't believe that it didn't catch on enough with the mainstream, and disappointed that's all that matters.
Still, better to burn out in a fiery meteorite crash than to fade away. Glad it ended on a solid season. Ending after season 4 would have been crappy.

I think the "main stream" is actually pretty good on Community. The problem is that today's main stream doesn't sit and wait for Community to come on at 9 on Thursdays (or whenever it's time is. I don't even know.) and networks consider those who do as "the main stream". It's the same reason the shows that younger people connect with tend to get cancelled while Two and a Half Men continues as a top show according to how they collect all their data.
Shows like Community going down is a distribution problem above all else. They'd be a better fit on Netflix.
How did Parks and Recreation get renewed (and will end on its own terms) but Community didn't? The viewership seems fairly consistent and are pretty much the best comedies NBC have.
That means he made his peace with Season 4 sometime no matter how you slice it. Even if that means he only found 4 episodes from Season 4 that were pretty good.
Season 4 was only 13 episodes.

Younger viewership is the most important factor for shows surviving on ad-supported networks. Two and Half Men has about 2-2.5x the 18-49 viewership of Community, that's why it's still on. And why sports is king.

It's probably because NBC produces Parks so they benefit from syndication, while Sony produces Community.

Upon review I have come to the disturbing conclusion that the downfall of Community was to due to Chevy Chase. Apparently Chevy was incredibly uncooperative and wouldn't read his lines even though his contract stated he was not allowed to improvise and he was cast as the seventh lead.
Dan Harmon chastised him for this at the end of season 3, chevy decided to quit, Dan got fired for chastising him and that's why season 4 was so bad (of course it was if you think about it). Season 5 was shockingly good near the end, Jeff as a teacher had the most potential. Season 6 hopefully has more play on alternate timelines, I'm optimistic it comes back as it has the whole six seasons and a movie thing going. Damn shame about season 4, oh well
I like how prophetic that turned out to be. They ended up making and airing 10 episodes of The Cape, but it was pretty much dead in the water by the time the third episode was broadcast.
I like this quote from Harmon...
Quote:
“I am very pleased that 'Community' will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” Harmon said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, 'Big Bang Theory.' Look out, 'Bang Bus!”
Here's hoping for a porn parody episode featuring Annie's Boobs...and I don't mean the monkey. AMIRIGHT?!?!

I wonder if anything changes because they lose the censor.
I am hoping for a bit of gratuitous cursing at the opening and then right back to the normal show.
And chalk me up with the group that had no idea Yahoo was making their own content. Hopefully they release it in Canada at the same time.
