What a joke of a post. PK would instantly become the most popular player on the Flames by a wide margin and rightfully so.

Whatever.
He's way too much of a distraction than he is worth. I stand by my post and really don't give a crap what you think of it.

If he's distracting us with his physical plays, intensity and goal scoring, then yes, I'd welcome that kind of distraction
Don't kid yourself. It's easy to hate Subban because he's the best player on the Hab's line up but I'd gladdly have him on the team anyday

But he's not. That's not the full package. You also get the showboat, stupid crap along with that. Just not worth it IMO.

I've been very critical of Subban in the past for this reason, but listening to him in interviews now it seems like he is moving on from that type of behaviour. I really think the Olympics had a big affect on him.

Are you suggesting the Habs would have finished higher in the regular season and would have already booked a ticket to the conference finals if they didn't have PK? Because that's what you need to believe to make the "more trouble than he's worth" statement.
I personally don't know if the Habs make the playoffs with out him.

Well yeah but if it was Crosby it would have been a big deal as well as star players rarely behave in that manner as it's something you would expect from a pest like Burrows, Marchand, Thornton, etc. It's a D-bag move for sure but it would have looked much worse coming from a star player.

I dunno, I think having a Norris Trophy winner is worth the occasional chest-thumping and a little bit of flashiness. If, for some reason, the Habs went crazy and decided to trade him to the Flames, he'd be the best player on the team.
His whining today about "not being able to see" after Thornton squirted him is pretty silly though, and hopefully the Habs get flushed right out of it tomorrow.

Unfortunately the Norris trophy has lost all of its prestige, its just become the 'Art Ross for Defencemen.'
Gone are the days where to win the Norris you had to be the best defenceman and if you scored a bunch of points as well its just because you were so good you spare time on the ice to kick ass all over the place.
I wouldnt put Subban or Karlsson in the same breath as players like Lidstrom, Chara, Niedermeyer or Pronger.

Of course you wouldn't put them in the same breath as 4 HOFers. They're still young though.

So what? The whole thing has changed. If you want to win the Norris you just have to be the highest scoring defenceman and thats it.
Last I checked playing defence wasnt about getting points.

I just can't help but think of PK as I thought of Phaneuf, even being a Flames homer. I never could get on board with Dion even when he was on our team. I have the same feelings toward Subban. I realize his upside from a rational standpoint but even though I know I should, I just can't bring myself to like him or cheer for him.

The Norris is still prestigious. A defensemen needs to be able to score and defend. This year's nominations are Chara, Keith and Weber. The player that won the "Art Ross" for dmen is Erik Karlsson by a LARGE margin.
So maybe the Norris isn't just an 'Art Ross for Defencemen' afterall.

And the last two winners are Karlsson and Subban and I'll bet that Keith wins it this year. Which way does that trend?

It is even worse than simply picking Backlund over him....
The Flames would have or at least should have been watching Subban very closely in his draft year. Their 2005 #1 draft pick Pelech was the #2 D-man on that team as a 20 year old.

They should have a Bobby Orr trophy for the highest scoring d man.

Bobby Orr wasn't just a point producer, he was an excellent defenseman.
Best all around defenseman ever - though admittedly, he also re-defined the position with respect to offense.
Edit: if you want to make that trophy, call it the Paul Coffey Trophy

If you are going to create a new trophy for defense the only option is to call it the Bobby Orr trophy.

He suggested it for an offensive defenseman trophy (in contrast to what the Norris should be)
Bobby Orr was too good to have his name associated with an award for a one-dimensional player
