I think it's you that doesn't understand.

Why do you think players always drag their back foot to avoid being offside?

He also stopped being scratched after he stayed playing better. I'm not sure there's real value in scratching other than to humble a player

Depends on the player and situation. I always go back to a story Toni Lydman shared one time. He was really struggling early in his career here in Calgary, eventually he was sat out for a stretch of games, he said it really made him focus on the games as he watched from the pressbox.

I can see the benefit, depending on the situation. Hartley seems like a communicatior so when he sits a guy he'll explain why, don't mind that.

I bet Brett Sutter had something to do with players underperforming as well. The guy could beat creativity and production out of anyone.

Darryl's son is multi-talented.

Too many Sutters. They took that go forth and multiply the hockey world too literally.

In addition to the above posts, Backlund said during the locker room clean up interviews that it was the November game in LA where he started to feel more comfortable making more plays with the puck and assisted on the game winning goal.

I can't wait to see what he does for a full season.

Backlund literally said that he got his confidence back by talking to his old coach in Sweden.

Sweden vs Czech

2-1 currently as Hudler just scored on a one timer to give the Czech's the lead

Backlund has an assist on Sweden's lone goal

I hope Hudler dominates this tournament just to make that Olympic non-selection look even worse.

Backlund is just beast mode this calendar year. He mentioned the father appreciation game in December as the day he put everything together and figured out how to play the NHL game.

Czechs make it 3-1. Sweden's defense has been horrible.

Think Backlund just tipped a point shot on the PP it to make it 3-2.

edit: Goal was credited to Moller... doesn't appear Backlund touched it in the replays.

2nd period is over.

Backlund will definately get that goal. Celebrated and later pointed to where it hit the stick. Beauty tip!

Nice screen by Backlund! Carries over his play from the season - hot streak or the real deal?

Glad to see him have consistent success.

Real deal, although I still don't expect him to be our 2nd line center. Elite 3C great defensively creative/dangerous offensively.
