If 5000 paid is the breakeven point for the Stealth, I have no idea how they expect to survive, even with dramatically lower travel costs and other breaks. And while the team was hot garbage most of the year, they never came close to that on average. That is a team that typically announced 3000-3500, and god only knows how much lower the paid average and turnstile count was. Which is a shame, because a Calgary-Edmonton-Vancouver rivalry would be good for all involved.

One thing my son found really funny on Saturday night was that both teams were made up completely of Canadians.

"Dad, that is another sport Canada rocks, hockey and lacrosse".

Seemed odd to me, I know there is plenty of field lacrosse played down in the states, and Col.

Americans are just starting to take up box lacrosse but they mostly play field. Americans play field and Canadians play box. Field is gaining popularity up here now and box is gaining down south.

Same here. Actually I think as a whole both Bannister and Board have been really on the mark during the draft. Go thru the list year over year and there is a lot of talent.

The cost of flying in players is something teams always watch. Under Bannister the Rougnecks really tried to focus on local guys - and would even find them jobs locally to reduce costs. With the Flames owning there are more fly-ins (e.g. Evans) but they still are focused on Canadian players.

There are some great American players - but it is always a wild card if they will play the NLL season or not. Casey Powell played a handful of games for the Mammoth this year, and Paul Rabil didn't play at all.

Some guys struggle to transition from field to box or vice versa.

So lots of factors at play.

The way Board was talking, it sounded like they should be in OK shape going forward. I agree with you that from the numbers that are out there, this is hard to believe. I don't think he has any reason to sugar coat their situation so I'm going with what he says.

He has every reason to sugar coat the situation. The NLL is a minor league, and that does require something of an all-for-one attitude to thrive. Plus Vancouver is the second closest opposition market. It is a hell of a lot cheaper for the Roughnecks to fly into Vancouver (especially since half the players live there) than it is to take an extra trip out east, while a good rivalry could drive attendance up.

It wasn't a negative post just an observation. I really enjoyed the game, and will try to take in more next year. I am hoping the NLL continues to grow and do well.

If nothing else it continued and further fostered my son's love affair with the sport. Which I am happy about.

Vancouver says even with brutal on floor results and fan turn out they are still in a better place financially since moving back to BC.

No doubt. But a government that has a bllion dollar deficit one year after having a $3 billion deficit is in a better place financially as well. Doesn't make it a good place.

They are not. But all NLL games are streamed live on Youtube on TLN.
