Montreal school tells 11 year old girl to remove her Bobby Orr shirt
Quote:
Officials at Honoré-Mercier Elementary School decided to cancel the game day alternative to school uniforms after a parent complained that an 11-year-old Boston fan was told to remove her Bobby Orr shirt on a previous Habs jersey day.
“She’s been a Boston Bruins fan all her life, so she kinda felt really bad. She felt kind of excluded from the school,” Pasquale told CBC News.
The girl’s father, Tony Pasquale, didn't make the complaint himself, but he agrees that telling his daughter that she couldn't wear her Bruins jersey was not the right approach.
Quote:
Board spokesman Mike Cohen said the school did the right thing by cancelling its jersey day.
“We don't think it's prudent for a student to wear a Boston Bruins jersey in a school during this very intensive playoff play,” Cohen said
Bah. If elementary kids start fighting over their favorite hockey teams, would be a perfect time to step in and lay down some lessons and priorities.
Ruined a fun day on account of a bully? How about using it to teach respect and that we're all fans and we shouldn't dislike each other for opinions on sports teams but rather on behavior.

Thank you for everything CP. Good memories and thankful for everything that has been done to help me out. I will no longer take part on these boards. Take care, Go Flames Go.
So..our way or the highway? lol sounds like quebec. Did they expect all the kids to be habs fans and not prepare for that possibility? So poorly handled and now the girl has to take all the blame for a special day being cancelled for everyone and will probably socially put her in an uncomfortable place just because she wanted to represent another team. What a joke.

Many people from a certain province take themselves way too seriously, and their insecurity complex dictated far to many decisions for them. Just chill out and relax for F's sake.
Hmm...Montréal School or individual? Press has a tendency to tell a story the way they would like it to be heard. BRUTAL reporting. I find it hard to believe that the Montréal school board said tell this child to remove her Jersey.
I definitely thought of the hockey sweater short story when I saw this. It seems like ostracizing people who don't support the Habs has been going on forever.
