Oh thank gawd... I was worried that Burke would push Treliving to hire him next offseason. Carlyle is no good.

So, Carlyle threw his coaching staff under the bus then?

Must have. That or Carlyle is greased in with upper management but they needed to scapegoat someone for last season. If he didn't throw them under the bus he let the bus hit them and did nothing to stop it.

Makes a lot of sense actually. Bring back Carlyle with new staff and if it works out and they make the playoffs great and if it's more of the same they can wait to see what happens with Babcock. The two year extension means nothing as they will gas him next season if they want.

Why would Babcock leave Det? I can't set him getting fired.

But why give the extension at all? And if it's an "insurance" extension why two years as opposed to one? I doubt Babcock is going anywhere and if you want an improvement at the Head Coach position just fire Carlyle now and hire Trotz (who actually is available, as opposed to a maybe Babcock availablity).

I think it makes no sense.

It's sticks out like a sore thumb happening on the same day Hitchcock only gets extended one year.

I don't get it either but as a Leafs hater it makes me happy.

The Leafs must have some major trades planned. There is no way you bring back the same roster and coach after their disaster finish.

Watching Bob McCowan today he made a statement that I agree with totally, when sportswriters say stuff like the coach lost the room it is garbage. The writers wouldn't know as they aren't in the room etc. He also said that the exit interviews at the end of the year are stupid because as management you don't care what the workers (players) have to say. He said that the only comment to the players should be shut up and come back next year and play better.

I agree with keeping the coach and sending a message to the players that you don't get your way (like the Oilers "stars" not buying into the coaches and only playing offense). I love the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL and they have had 3 coaches since 1970, the owners basically telling the players to buy in because the coach isn't leaving. I wish more teams would take this approach.

Huh? Bernier was great.

He posted a .923 save % facing by far the most NHL shots and he's still only 25. But you think they need a goaltender?

I am shocked by this. I was confident that Carlyle would be leaving this summer. It seems like an unusual move for the Leafs organization to keep an unsuccessful coach on board. Carlyle must be a sweet talker behind closed doors.
