Other than a few minor dings the thing is in immaculate shape too. I think the guy needed cash pretty badly. Almost felt bad, started $2,500 below asking price

Is that the 3v 5.4 triton? They are notorious for having cam phaser knock. Makes your engine sound like a diesel. The F-150s anyways...

It's got a bit of an interesting engine noise almost like a whir when your going from 0-30 but I don't notice it much after that.

My wife took a picture of a Tesla Model X yesterday (here in Calgary). I see that this model is brand new and they are taking reservations for 2015. Anyone know what this car would set someone back? I've heard everything from $60,000 to $100,000.

I really wish they would stop sloping down the backs of these crossovers. It totally negates the practicality of the hatchback.

It's nice to see a Tesla on the road every now and again. I kind of wonder what their battery usage is like in this temperature though.

The model S is definitely a nice looking car. The X looks nice enough too, but from a practicality standpoint, that back would kill it for me.

I'm curious too, as the quoted ranges on the website are bloody impressive.

It's still enough to get around the city no problem, might be risky to drive to the mountains and back.

Yeah, the range-anxiety, especially in the winter, would be pretty high on a trip to the mountains. But they would be fantastic city cars for most people though, especially for commuters who do the exact same trip every day.

Table hit the nail on the head with a van.

Cheaper than all the options
More space than an SUV for people/gear
Better fuel economy
Higher payload than most SUV's/small trucks
4x8 sheets of construction materials
More comfortable ride

They look less than ideal but from a function stand point vans nail it.

Does anyone have advice about Jeep? My girlfriend is looking at a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited. It was pretty nice to drive, but I expect everything to be pretty nice considering it's new. I'm more worried about 5 years down the road, is this thing going to be a headache?

Personally, I'm a big Honda guy. I've had two CRV's and now a Ridgeline, and have never had even the smallest issue with any of them. Honda's reputation is that they generally don't die and you can drive them for years and years. But I don't know much about Jeep or their reputation.

I think its hard to say at this point as the jeep platform is only a couple years old at this point. I'd check out a KIA/Hyundai my gf has an 08 sante fe and we haven't had a single problem with it for the past 5 years. Looked at the jeeps but man they're pricey.

I'm looking for a new SUV at the moment as well. I'm looking for something a little larger than the Cherokee, but here are my thoughts.

If I was looking at a smaller SUV, I'd be looking at the Ford Edge (love the tech that Ford has been coming up with), and especially the Kia/Hyundai in that class.

We own a 2011 Kia Optima and it has been, without a doubt, the best car we've ever owned. Hasn't had a single problem and has so many bells and whistles that it didn't compare to anything else being offered in the class. Most of my friends are amazed when they get in it. Really top notch.

I looked at the Sorento and Sante Fe when I was doing my preliminary research for my new SUV, unfortunately, they are just a little too short to be comfortable for me (I'm 6'4").

Of course it is going to depend on what your gf wants her vehicle to do. Does she tow anything? Does she need off-road capability? (the Cherokee looks to have the best towing and off-road capabilities in its class - if she's not doing either of these, perhaps something else might suit her better).

Anyone own a new model Ford Explorer? thoughts, reviews?

It seems to be one of the only SUVs that I will fit comfortably in. I am trying to convince the wife to let me get an F-150, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Try the Flex as well in comparison to the Explorer.
