Easy there man.. Airdrie has a giant cowboy to look at.

FWIW I used to live in Airdrie. I lost contact with all of my friends for about a year. Airdrie (in MY opinion) has zero redeeming qualities.

Commute sucks (emphasis on this)
Communities suck
Entertainment sucks
People suck
Police there are entitled dickheads

Next time I want to go drink ####ty beer in a dirty garage, then I will make that 45 minute commute out there.

Again as someone who has lived in Airdrie, this is my opinion of the place. Don't go freaking out on me.

The problem is Red Deer/Sylvan Lake are much better than Airdrie.

I was actually going to post this, went a few years ago when we had only one kid and she loved going for a ride on the trains.

Have they expanded the park since? I know they had some pretty grand plans to simulate the journey from the prairies to Vancouver.

When we were down in Phoenix we went to a very ramped up version of Iron Horse Park (in Scottsdale) called McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, a larger gauge train to ride on, multiple parks for the kids, old trains cars on display (including the old Presidential one), and a large building housing huge displays of model train set ups. Really cool.

What are you talking about no parks. Right in my community there is a park that has 4 baseball diamonds, a skate park, a water splash area and a large play park. There is also Nose Creek park which is quite big and hosts the Festival of Lights every Christmas. Also every community has at least small parks with playgrounds.

So what we don't have a zoo or science center or any of that. If I want to go to those I hop in my car and go. The zoo\science center is 25 minutes away. I went last weekend. Heritage Park, even when I lived in the south I went there twice over 5 years, it is lame and never changes, not worth the time or money.
Also when is the last time you have been to these places? I know lots of people who never go to these places and just don't care. Sure Calgary has them but so what.

Read my post again - that was my point. Every community in the world has parks. It's not a selling feature. Of course there are parks, that's the most basic component of any neighbourhood.

If you have kids and enjoy doing activities with them, then you likely go to those Calgary facilities all the time.

And Heritage Park never changes? You, my friend, have clearly not been there in a while. Aside from the main stuff in the middle, the park has been completely reinvented over the the past five years. It's incredible. We get a family pass every single year - it's the one attraction I never get tired of. I'm zooed out and Science Centred out, but Heritage Park I could go to every weekend and just chill out with my family and some friends and never be bored.

The thing with Airdrie is you don't save any material amount on a house (10%, if that), but you lose out on countless amenities with absolutely no upside. It's confounding how it keeps growing.

We're up to 2 posts mentioning Airdrie strings up some Christmas lights in a park every year.

I'm edging ever closer to contacting Realtor1 and making the move.

No I have not been to Heritage Park in a few years, what is different. When I went before there were old buildings to walk through, a fair with bad rides, a train and a boat.

As for Airdrie growing so much I believe it is the fastest growing city in Alberta or close to it. If it was up to me I would tell people to stay away and stop coming here as I don't want it to grow but with it growing so much you have to wonder why so many people are choosing it over other places, even communities in Calgary.

I grew up in the Kooteneys so I am used to small towns and I like that. Sure it does not have everything that Calgary has but I don't care. I like living in a small town that has a "Main Street". I like living in a place that I can drive from one side to the other in under 10 minutes. That's just me, I know its not for everyone and I can especially see how people that were born and raised in a big city like Calgary would not get it.

When I moved out of Calgary I looked at all the outer towns and I choose Airdrie because it had what I was looking for. Cochrane was very nice but it did not have enough amenities, I figured we would be coming back into Calgary for to much stuff. Chestermere was nice as well but same thing. Okotoks, again very nice but I hate dealing with south Calgary, the roads are terrible and always busy.
I can see why people would choose any of those three, but they were not for me.

Just my two cents.

Please do, knock it down so people stop moving here. Around 2000 in 2 years is too much.

In fact if anyone searching the internet for Sylvan Lake finds this post:

#### off we are full!

Typical Sliver. The things YOU might like or enjoy are meaningless, but the things he likes and enjoys are amazingly awesome.

Also, I would argue your point in bold. I recently bought a house in a new Airdrie community and I saved about 100k on a 600k house. AND I got a bigger lot (with more yard, which is a tangible upside IMO).

I am finding this thread very amusing. There appears to be a considerable number of Calgarians bringing an "I wouldn't enjoy it there so you shouldn't either" attitude. Not sure I really get the point of that.

It's just fun getting the Ardrinianites riled up.

I grew up in with NE postal codes and still have one now. I know what it's like for everyone to make fun of your area just to see you get all defensive and bring up your indoor water slides

Yeah, I get that. At the same time though, who is more riled up? Airdronians, or the anti-suburbanites? I'd say the latter, myself.

I don't live in Airdrie but this thread is stupid...the majority of posters are from Calgary so its the best because they have cowboy halloween ounce a year

some people like living in the big city some don't and people usually seem to like the place they choose to live (go figure)

as far as big cities go Calgary isn't so great...terrible weather, no parking, old POS sports stadiums. You know the city blows when you are bringing up heritage park as an advantage. Calgary looks good compared to Edmonton but some of you guys need to travel outside the city. Best thing about Calgary is proximity to the mountains so congrats
