Thanks for bumping that. I meant to listen to it earlier, then completely forgot about it.

I love hearing when guys find girls I think are hot are not. Different tastes. Hopefully means less competition for girls that look like Aviril. Who is hot.

Our new coach did speciffically mention Gio, but isn't it expected to positively mention the team captain in a welcome aboard interview?

Great article on the Coyotes from a few years ago with quotes from Treliving.

http://thehockeywriters.com/overtime...g-unfair-game/

Quote:
“Mike is a guy we knew very well,” Coyotes assistant general manager Brad Treliving says a year later. “He might be as athletic as any goaltender I’ve ever been around. He plays the puck well which allows you to spend less time in your defensive zone. [Head Coach Dave Tippett] knew him from Dallas, knew his character and how he’d fit with us. Then we’ve seen what Sean Burke has been able to do with other goaltenders in our organization, like Bryzgalov.”

With that said, can you expand on why you are one of the "no" votes on this poll?

If Treliving could ever pry Sean Burke out of Phoenix, that would be a massive coup. He has done good work with their goalies.

I doubt he'd ever leave though, especially now that his son is a Coyotes' prospect.

Yeah, I would think that's not out of the realm of possibility being that he's now working for Hockey Canada as well. Maybe Brad is also interviewing him for the AGM position?

However, I would think that depending on how the team develops in the next few years and if the opportunity presents itself Dave Tippet might be a future coach of the Flames.

The article also gives a little more perspective on the Coyotes perspective and usage of advanced stats, as a performance metric and coaching tool.

Quote:
Much like the approach Maloney and Treliving take to identifying logical fits for their roster, Tippett attempts to quantify key individual contributions through the use of advanced metrics. In November, he told XTRA910 that what fans or coaches see happening on the ice isn’t always an accurate portrayal of what’s really going on:
Quote:
"When you go to a game, everybody can get a perception of a player. If a guy works really hard, skates really fast, everybody thinks he’s a great player. I do a lot of stats that are kind of behind the scenes that involve what a player actually contributes to the game. That can be anything from scoring chances, shots on goal for, shots blocked. We have a couple different stats.

We have one that’s called an efficiency stat that basically has a ratio of points for everything a player does. Everything from a goal to an assist, hit, fight, giveaway, takeaway, block, everything that happens in a game and the player comes up with a rating. It’s not a system where a player is graded highest to lowest. It’s what each individual does. It’s broken down and presented to the players. Sometimes you have a guy that’s supposed to be creating chances for you. If he’s not anywhere on the scoreboard or creating chances, I have a problem with that.

I used to do it by long-hand and it used to take me hours and hours with VCR’s. When I got to Dallas I hired a video guy who was working for a software company. We worked for a long time to create a software package that would bring all of this to light. It was okay in Dallas but then I got here and our video coach Steve Peters has done just a heck of a job. I told him ‘this is what I want to do and I think there’s some upside in this if we can get it all figured out’ and he’s taken it to another level. What we have now is a very efficient way of looking at the game.

We let the players see some of these stats. I think players recognize that they want to have a certain contribution to the game. If a guy isn’t scoring, he can certainly run into a couple people or block a couple shots. It keeps everybody focused on the task at hand and it comes back to our identity: Everybody has to do something for us to win."

Bump, he's on right now.

Lots of love for Conroy and the work he's done helping Treliving with the Heat.

Sorry, missed the 2nd half, dad duties took over.

Last tidbits I heard was that he hasn't been in touch with Cammy yet, expects to get in touch with his camp in the next few days to see where everyone is at.

Very excited to work with Gio next year.

Was asked about how young the team may be next year, he said it's up to the kids. He told the Heat players the same thing, they'll have to work for it, harder than they've ever worked before. But if they do well enough and earn a spot they will make a spot available.

I will need to listen to the rest when it gets posted.

Nice article on Trelving from nhl.com. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=717810

Is this a rebuild in Calgary, or is it a build-up?
"I like how you phrased that. So often this terminology gets thrown out. Ultimately where we're at right now is we've got a team that's going through a lot of change and we've got to grow it. We've got to build this team up. Whether you call it a rebuild or a refresh, whatever terminology you pick, we're in early stages of a team that's gone through some transition over the last couple of years and we have to introduce some young players into our program, add some young assets, but the idea that we're going to sit here for 10 years and wait for players to get older after we draft them is … we want to move it along. It's hard to put timeframes on these, but we want to be aggressive on all fronts, and you don't necessarily know when things are going to click. But we want to go down that path without all of a sudden saying, 'How do we get better,' in November and then sending two 20-year-olds out the door for somebody that's going to help us for a year. We're not going to do that. But we're going to look at every available avenue to make sure we can get better as soon as we can get better."

Finally got around to listening to it again, not a lot to add.

- He already has a good relationship with about 25 GMs around the league. Said about 23 reached out to him when he got hired.

- Says he's seen all of the top rated draft choices, wants to have a good read on the top 30.
