first two things ...
1. Strap On thing is hilarious
2. I don't like Ann Coulter
please remember #2 above before replying with some "since you like Ann Coulter you must be ..." post because I'm already on the record.
However, saw an interesting discussion/debate about her last night that caught my interest. It was suggested, and I have to admit I see the point, that she's satirical much in the way that say Bill Maher has become. Very political, making money off of politics with humour and go waying over the edge. Is she as funny as Maher? No ... but a very similar style to make fun of the opposing political view. The discussion went on to wonder if ...
a) The Frankens and Mahers are cut more slack because they have comedic backgrounds and lean left?
b) because spiteful political humour is more acceptable from men than women.
interesting anyway.

Well, your post is like 4th or 5th from the top of the thread--so I naturally assumed it was a reply to, you know, the topic of the thread. Don't mean to put words in your mouth, but you have to expect your remarks to be interpreted in context.
Not that I think you meant to imply that you think it's hilarious to lampoon 9/11 widows--just saying that I think some of Coulter's shenanigans are not so funny--such as the one that is the topic of this thread.

Yes and I prefaced my comments by saying that she does go too far and then I said that SOME of the things she says can be pretty funny.
SO PC people. really.

Coulter, can't stand her. She absolutely makes my skin crawl. But sometimes when I hear some of the vitriol she spews she makes me think of the brother and sister in the book 'Enders Game'. The nazi brother takes on a liberal public persona while his left-leaning sister takes on a righteously militaristic one. Maybe I just want to believe that the only way she can say the things that she says is because she doesn't believe them herself. I guess I'm hoping that she's the political equivalent of Andy Kaufman or something.
Then again I've been hoping pretty much the same thing about Pope Benedict XVI for the last year or so.

even if you don't like Maher (lets leave Franken out of this...he's a more extreme example, perhaps approaching Coulter at least in terms of distance from centre)
1. Maher is funny. Coulter isn't. even if you don't think Maher is funny, he's funnier than Coulter
2. Maher to me, even if left leaning , seems at least (like most good comedians) willing to make a joke at the expense of 'his own'...I don't see that from Coulter
I don't think it s a gender bias thing

Maher is a centerist and will pick on anyone. The guy made as much fun of Kerry during the election as he did the villiage idiot. Maher beats up both sides equally and thinks Democrats are a bunch of spineless losers who need Viagra to converse with a Republican. Plus, he's actually funny.
Franken is as left (in the American political specturm anyways) as they come, but he does try to back his stuff up with some truth. ****er just makes up stuff as she wishes, and the majority of it hateful and insipid. How anyone tries to defend her is beyond me. But there are those that will defend Pat Robertson and George Bush, so it isn't that surprising I guess.
Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, Gibson and O'Reilly could be subject to the next big terrorist attack, and I would be dancing in the street. These hate mongerers are the reason why America is thought of the way it is. Eliminating them would be a step in the right direction for this WORLD. They are just as bad as the Islamists they criticize for their hate. Yet people still listen to and believe them. Hey, people defend the Bushes, and they are brownshirt supporters from way back.

Who, exactly, is trying to defend her?
IMO, she is an idiot like all other loudmouth idiots, in the political pundit arena.
That doesn't mean, however, she isn't allowed to express her opinions. She is not funny nor informed in any way as far as I, and most i would think, have seen.
She is full of bluster and words, and makes a healthy living doing so....that doesnt make her right nor important though.

I personally can't stand Maher but I would watch his show before I ever watched Coulter, or any one on Fox News for that matter. The only 3 people that I can tolerate are Stewart, Colbert, and Black.

Hey Bingo, Coulter may be privately laughing all the way to the bank but the fact is most on the left and on the right take her seriously. If she owned up to being sarcastic or facetious, I might find her funny, but that's not the case.
Maher is obviously over the top while trying to send a message and I find him a great entertainer with a lot of truth. Doulter not so much.

Hateful much? Get over your arrogance Lanny, everyone has a right to speak what they want. I couldn't give two ****s what the world thinks of my opinion.
You're just as bad as the Islamics because you want people eliminated for expressing their freedom.

Shove it up your ass. You don't have a clue what these clowns have done to this country in the past six years. Try living in a country where even a hint of compassion for your fellow man gets you branded as a "liberal" and labelled an "enemy of the state". Its these hatemongers that have split the country and greatly contributed to the dumbing down of America. They are enemies of democracy. Do I hate them? Hell yeah, I do. I hate them like I hate the Aryan Nations, the KKK, or any other hate organization.
It's a good thing you don't care what anyone thinks of your opinion too, because it ain't worth two ****s.

Hilarious!!! You might want to check out what your heros in the White House are doing about eliminating our freedoms, and what those baby killers in the military are doing over in Iraq! Yeah, the Patriot Act and spying on Americans is really a display of "freedom". And the house-to-house searches, detainments, and murders of innocents in Iraq are really examples of "freedom" too. Get over your STUPIDITY there Bushie.

So who really is the hatemonger? Because if they "are" splitting the country, you're right along with them.

I don't see people being killed for expressing their freedom. In the US.

Yikes...........what a small, closed brain this idiot has.

"Because they speak French."

I like her stance on how bad Canada is. She was on the Fifth Estate on night slamming Canada for not joining the war on terrorism and said that we backed the USA in Vietnam, the reporter than told her that we weren't there, she argued and he told her that it was the Aussies who were there. She got all flustered and said that she would have to check her records because she knoew for sure that we were in Nam with them. I think she is clued out on the best of days, she also made a statement that Canada better watch ourselves before the U.S just rolls over on us and wipes us out if we aren't careful. She is the biggest "C" word I have ever seen on TV

There were "some" Canadians in Vietnam. But as we all know, she never meant that.
Sometimes her lack of knowledge is appalling.

Of course there were some but she meant that as an entire nation that the government sent the troops over.
