Holy crap! First overall??? Let's trade everyone to get it! Surely Florida would want everyone!
I think a lot here get way too excited over the draft. In all honesty if our first is to be involved, I wouldn't trade more than a B prospect (think Reinhart, Wotherspoon, Klimchuck) along with it. If our first isn't included, maybe I would trade a veteran top 6 guy (Hudler or sign and trade Cammalleri) plus a good prospect that's fallen out of favor with management (Baertschi).

Something tells me Florida would come back and demand Granlund or Reinhart. Not sure Agostino would cut it to bridge the gap.

Baertschi's ceiling is a top line winger and it's not like 30 goals is some crazy out of reach number. Those are reasonable expectations for a prospect like him.

When he scores 30 goals in the AHL then I will get excited.

I'd probably still do that, even though I think Granlund and Reinhart will be better players than Kenny. You gotta give to get; much harder to land an Ekblad type than it is a Max Reinhart type.

If it was me, I'd take Sam Reinhart 1st.

Scoring Winger

I'm more intrigued by the possibility of adding the 1st overall without giving up the 4th. It might cost far too much to acquire it without the 4th overall, but crazier things have happened.
I think Treliving won't do anything that bold this early in his tenure though. I'm content at 4th

While awesome, more than somewhat unrealistic.
Drafting 1st and 4th would probably cut the rebuild in half, but I dont see any scenarios where Florida doesnt have a 1st round pick coming back. Granted, it could be next year's first, but next year's draft is supposed to be excellent and I dont see the Flames wanting to take that risk.

About 50% the total votes on Craigs List thread were in favor of Ekblad 1st overall, with Reinhart garnering maybe 40% of the 1st overall.

What about San Jose? Would they consider a deal with Thornton or Marleau to get Ekblad?

They just signed 3 year extensions with full NMCs.

Brodie & Backlund are an integral part of our future. Particularly Brodie - I don't think the Flames would trade him for a first overall straight up.
You might consider making your deal for a first overall, if that first overall is a legitimate generational talent a la Crosby, Ovie, Mackinnon. This is no such year.

Their playoff experience doesn't make them immediate help.

It's not what CP would do, its what we think management would do. Considering both GM and President have said they like to build teams from back end out I think they would take Ekblad .

True, but after the last debacle maybe they're ready to move on.

Backlund is not an integral part of the future. I'm not saying they should trade him but he is not untouchable.
Flames wouldn't even think twice if all it took was Brodie for 1st overall.

When I think of a defenceman being drafted 1st overall I think of Erik Johnson. I wouldn't want an Erik Johnson with the 1st overall pick.

I expect the Flames are not involved with this, the only players I'd be happy to see go would be Glencross or Wideman even though I expect neither of them are worth first overall.
I think a really interesting team to try go for it would be either the Caps or Detroit, and no I don't mean either of those teams trading Ovi, Backstrom, Zberg or Datsyuk. I just think they could do something that makes sense.
