Not when his wife and family are back in Calgary. He's said he found Abbotsford great to get out to the games and get home again.

I'm not against moving to Glens Falls, except I won't be able to make it to any games now. It will be great to have an enthusiastic fan base and a full arena. Travel time for games will also be shorter and cheaper.

they've already started a FB page for the team...and it's within a reasonable driving distance for me (6 - 7 hours)

It looks like they're really into having the Heat.

"They" being a fan. Certainly a passionate fan though.

I could see Johnny Hockey becoming a fan favorite out there (assuming he starts the season in the AHL of course).

I'm happy that we'll be able to give them a good talented team to watch next year.

By that logic, Peoria Rivermen, Hartford Wolf Pack, Iowa Wild, Syracuse Crunch, and San Antonio Rampage aren't proper names either.

Lets change them all so they end in S.

So if I now convince the wife to take a city break to New York, how easy is it going to be to convinve her to go out to Glens Falls to see the Heat play??

So basically how far is Glens Falls from NYC and how easy would it be to get too??

It's actually about 30 miles closer to Montreal than it is to Manhattan.

Google has the driving time from Montreal at a little under 3 hours, and from NYC at about 3 and a half hours. It's right off the main Interstate between Montreal and NYC, so I'd think the drive would be good (assuming the weather is okay).

From NYC, you'd be better off trying to see them play a road game in Bridgeport or Hartford than a home game. Here's a map (Glens Falls is the northernmost yellow tack): http://goo.gl/maps/mvdLY

I like that fan facebook page's idea of simply going with the Adirondack Flames and using the Atlanta flames logo and scheme.

You don't fix a stupid team name by sticking an S on it. But a lot of stupid names can be avoided in the first place by not picking a singular nickname.

(Nobody would buy a car without wheels. But if someone did, they would not solve the problem by painting wheels on the car afterwards.)

Well that's just not even close to the same thing. A car cannot function without wheels, a team can function just fine with a name that is devoid of an S.

If that facebook page is any indication, their fans seem pretty excited to be having us. A better home record with the aide of some actual support and fewer mid season call-ups might yield a pretty spectacular season for the heat next year.... looking forward to it!

So whats happening to the Phantoms? They are in Adirondack too, yes? But I assume this is a different city in the same region. Do they both assume the Adirondack handle? This is the league with two teams named the Admirals.

You don't seem to be sniffing what I'm dropping.

Sure, a car is useless without wheels, but the car is not analogous to the team; the car is analogous to the name. And there have been names in minor-league hockey that were so stupid, they were as useless to the team as a car with no wheels would be to you or me. From a marketing standpoint, a name like, for instance, 'Grrreenville Grrrowl' is a licence to burn money.

In some ways, a name like that is worse than a car with no wheels. If you have a useless car cluttering up your garage, you can always buy another car and park it in the driveway. But a hockey team can only have one name at a time.
