There were also rumours that NYI were looking to move the 5th overall for immediate help. It seems like this draft class isn't impressing some teams very much. We haven't even heard hints of teams considering offers for top picks in recent years, and certainly not actively shopping them.

Could these picks be cheaper to aquire than we think?

I'm calling this right now:

Taylor Hall/Nail Yakupov/Gagner for Florida's 1st.

Just so the Oilers can restart their rebuild by trading the guys they rebuilt with. Because they just had so much fun rebuilding last time that they just cant wait to do it all over again!

Very little difference between the top 4 guys - no way I would give up much to move from 4th to 1st.

But getting the pick without giving up the 4th would interest me.

Something starting with Backlund?

Backlund and Baertschi is a lot.

Backlund, Reinhart and a 2nd?

Probably not, given the Oilers won't give up the players Florida would want. Assuming Katz has lost his fanboy crush on Yakupov, they could offer him up, but Florida would be beyond stupid to consider it, even if the cost is only dropping down two spots.

Jovanovski still plays in the NHL?

I learned something today!

I would say package the 2nds with the 1st. That is as far as I would go. Unless a player like Hudler or Stajan and the 1st interests them, I wouldn't make a deal. The Flames worked hard to develop some depth in the organization. No use in screwing that up to move up three spots in a draft where there is no consensus number one pick. Better to take BPA at 4 and then draft a whack of defensemen after the fact.

They will want young players that are all ready in the NhL. They are not going to want vets like Wideman , Stajan ect. I guess Backlund could be on their radar but I have to think they can get better. If Cammi was signed for 2 more years I could see him in a package.

Given how highly Burke has spoken of Ekblad it would not surprise me if there were talks going on between the two. Baertschi+4th OA for the 1st OA would not shock me, although I'm not sure I would do it were I in the GM seat.

You must be a young man because if there is anything I've learned over the past innumerable years of Oilers rebuilds, the number of which not even those in charge can accurately state, is that one never underestimates the stupidity of the Edmonton Oilers.

Never.

If you think Ekblad is the second coming (I don't!) do you trade Giordano for him. I suspect that would get it done but I'd hate to see us do it.

What does Edmonton have? Yak won't do it. The Oilers are not trading Hall or Eberle, so what else?

I wish...unfortunately, not a young man. I just don't see the Oilers being that stupid, but if would be funny to be wrong.

#### me. No way you give up Baertschi just to move up three spots in a draft where the top 4-5 players are very close in talent.

What the hell?

Look at draft trade histories. It doesn't cost teams top prospects to move up like that. All it usually costs to move up is adding another pick, like a late a 2nd rounder or something.

I absolutely love Gio but he'll be 31 at the start of this season and we're not going to be really competitive until he's 34 or older. In my books you trade him this Draft or next and don't let his value drop off.

Some players are more valuable on the roster than they are in a trade. Giordano is one of those players.

big strong dman who can move the puck...every team in the NHL needs that! A good prospect and the flames 4th overall in a heartbeat, if that was the pricetag

I think Gio is as close to untouchable as you get. He is the driving force behind the identity this team is forging (great veteran presence to look up to) as well as a solid top 2 defenceman.

Florida might be looking at these types of players from our roster (I don't think we have what they want)

Glencross
Backlund
Russell
Hudler
Brodie

Any combination there that would work?

What about a sign and trade deal involving Cammy? We can sign him for the money he wants and then take on some of that money as part of the package (assuming we'd have to include something else in the deal).
