We can all sleep soundly tonight, knowing the war on drugs is over and organized crime has been abolished.

I have no problems with the so called war taking out dirtbags like this. These weren't grass farmers trying to make a living by selling weed to hippies.

These guys were selling the worse type of drugs in Oxy and Meth and others, drugs that quickly destroy life.

This is a good bust.

I could live with this if that was the focus.

Vietnamese drug trafficking gang from Vancouver. Sounds about right. When I used to do legal research and was bored, I'd go read the drug bust cases in the court system. The names, the items recovered etc. were always similar to this (except for the AK-47).

I only have a problem when it's been as ineffective as it has. Busts like these? Love it

We're going to have to be more careful when Vancouverites move here. Might need to set up some sort of Alberta Customs stop right around Golden...

Nothing changed today, to the people that actually matter, busts like these are simply the cost of doing business and the void created will be filled almost instantly.

In other news, alcohol (the most harmful and dangerous drug in the world), is still widely available to all.

You're right, I cant wait for the day where I can buy meth at the local 7/11. Then we'll truly be living in a great and free society.

$1 million dollars worth of mostly hard drugs are pulled off the street, theres no way that doesn't make a dent. Is it gonna stop the flow of drugs into Calgary? No, but it can't hurt.

Don't know why you would bring up alcohol, which is legal. Especially when you consider people have free will. Don't want to drink? Don't drink. Whats the problem?

You'd prefer a system that creates and funds violent organized crime? I don't think 711 would sell meth, they don't even sell booze.

Can it hurt to have a bust like this? Not really. Did it accomplish anything? Not really. Well it did: Prices might be higher for a while, thus making organized crime more money. But this had a maybe 0.01% effect on drug availability. Getting the guns off the street is a much more meaningful accomplishment here.

Good point. If you can't wipe out all of the illegal drugs in one bust, why bother trying at all. I think I'll use this in my next motivational speech. If you can't do your job 100% effectively, don't come in to work today.

The seized drugs include:
  • 4.6 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $460,000
  • 115 kilograms of Phenacetin with an estimated street value of $230,000
  • 6.5 kilograms of marihuana with an estimated street value of $64,940
  • 1.6 kilograms of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $162,000
  • 387 grams of MDMA with an estimated street value of $38,000
  • 187 oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $15,000
Police say the seizure of Phenacetin, is the largest in ALERT’s history at 115 kilograms. The drug, also known as “Superbuff”, is used as a cutting agent to dilute the purity of cocaine to maximize profits.

I dont care if it was miniscule in relation to what is in the market...all of the above will not get into the hands of the public.....

Haha that's not even close to true. You must be working for big heroin if you're going to go around saying nonsense like that

The police busting real criminals is nice. If they'd only take on the hells angels now, those guys have got to be the most powerful criminal organisation around
