I would do that, I don't think Edmonton would though - I think its closer to even value with a lower pick, maybe a second (which is essentially a late first with Edmonton draft positions lately).

lol....worst case scenario nurse will be a solid #4 defence...and another pick in the first round next year, would increase this teams chances of getting an elite prospect....something they need IMO
yes, Gio makes the oilers a better team, but they are so bad they need a lot more changes than just Gio to make them even close to a playoff contender. Even with Gio, oilers will not finish any better then 23-24 overall next year

Every time I see one of these ######ed trade proposals it makes me feel older.

That's not even close to the worst case scenario.

Flames would NEVER trade Gio to the Oilers. Bringing it up is pointless and a complete waste of time debating it IMO. Teams don't trade their heart and soul leaders to their biggest rivals
No chance Gio is moved this summer he is highly valued by the organization.

It's Anaheim's 6th rounder, isn't it? Acquired in the Jackman trade.

Well, the 4th turned into Colborne, the 5th turned into Russell and the 6th turned into someone else. I want to say Westgarth but Nemo went to CAR for him. Honestly don't recall where the Flames 6th went.
EDIT: What caged said, McDermid. I thought it was Colborne but I guess I was wrong.

Treliving on draft philosophy:"Draft is for taking best player available. It's up to the GM to address positional needs through FA or trade

That makes perfectly good sense. The draft is where you accumulate the best assets available. Some will play for your squad in future and some will be packaged with or without players from your lineup to meet future roster needs.

was also happy to see his comments on the "list" this week.
Talked about working with a scouting group to build a group list and then taking the next player available on it period.
No emotion, no last second change of mind.
I like that ... I think teams can get themselves in trouble when they spend 6 months working on something and then just throw it away because a player fell more than they expected. ~cough Edmonton cough~

Calgary Flames social media has been sharing quite a bit of Michael Dal Colle related content in the past week. I haven't seen many, if any posts about any other draft eligible player yet.
I wonder if it has any meaning behind it

With 2 2nds and 2 3rds, wonder if flames will be able to move up to a late first if someone drops that catches scouts eye?

That Flames 5th for Kris Russell... just a solid, solid trade. Looked good then, and looks even better now.
