At least it is 3.99 at Sobeys. To bad I can't find anything that isn't a single.
At Sobeys you get 10% off if you buy six. It's their mix n match deal.

Alright beer lovers, are there any types of beer clubs in Calgary? I'm not into home brewing, but otherwise anything is great. An ongoing group of people getting together for tastings or tours or events type of thing all about micro breweries, craft beer, etc.

Looked a bit but haven't found anything yet; I know Edmonton for e.g. has their beer geeks group: http://www.edmontonbeergeeksanonymous.ca/

I still order Trad fairly regularly when I'm out and it's definitely inconsistent. Maybe it just depends how much of it a particular bar moves and how old their kegs are, but I swear I get some pints that can only be described as 'sweet', where as typically it's a decently balanced malt flavour.

Heck sometimes I'll have a pint at lunch downtown, then a pint that evening at my local watering hole and there is a noticeable difference in flavour/profile.

Agree that big Rock has had a long list of failures, but I was surprised to enjoy their new foul mouth beer. I really didn't expect to

How to Drink All Night Without Getting Drunk

Jim Koch knows beer. He also knows a beer trick that may change your life.

http://www.esquire.com/blogs/food-fo...t-to-get-drunk

So what was the secret?

“Yeast!”

“Yeast?”

“Active yeast. Like you get at the grocery store.”

Koch told me that for years he has swallowed your standard Fleischmann’s dry yeast before he drinks, stirring the white powdery substance in with some yogurt to make it more palatable.

“One teaspoon per beer, right before you start drinking.”

You see, what Owades knew was that active dry yeast has an enzyme in it called alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH). Roughly put, ADH is able to break alcohol molecules down into their constituent parts of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Which is the same thing that happens when your body metabolizes alcohol in its liver. Owades realized if you also have that enzyme in your stomach when the alcohol first hits it, the ADH will begin breaking it down before it gets into your bloodstream and, thus, your brain.

“And it will mitigate – not eliminate – but mitigate the effects of alcohol!” Koch told me.

Drink more alcohol, get less hungover.

Particularly important on nights when you are having a beer club night, or the game goes into double OT.

Coors has a new citrus product out.

Not sure if it's available in Canada.

Yes. It's my birthday, we hired a limo, and immagonnagetWASTED

Hopefully beerfest is like Oktoberfest. Probably not, but I will attempt to make party to the best of my ability.

I love coming to Alberta just so I can get some Tree Brewing.. they don't know how to make a bad beer.

Time to load up the trunk, take that provincial tax!

One of my new favorites is an imperial stout from Spain of all places. It's called Nomada Moose Islay. As the name implies, it is brewed in whiskey barrels and just has a fantastic flavour. I highly recommend it if imperial stouts are your thing.

They have a new Kölsch called Rhine Stone Cowboy. Pretty good. The flavour infused beers are not my thing so I didn't try it. They had a poutine one I think too.

Interesting.

Were *I* in charge of Big Rock, I would be positioning that brewery as a brewer of 'craft' lagers. Kolsch, Lager, Pilsner, Bohemian Lagers, smoked lagers etc. etc.

Small breweries don't have the capacity to really do Lagers with any sort of volume. If you want to appeal to the burgeoning 'craft' market, become the Kokanee of craft beer. Have a stellar lineup of easily drinkable but exciting and different cold fermenting beers.

Dear Big Rock: When I see these things in stores, I expect a royalty check. These ideas ain't just free.
