I like the name Heat, and love the old Atlanta logo.
Don't see why we couldn't use both.
That said, Adirondack Heat, or Adirondack Flames, I hope they use that logo.

Why not look at their track record with the Phantoms for that answer?

Considering abbotsford is down to 3000 this year I guess that's fine.
With the smaller building it should look packed every night at least.

It's about an hour's drive from Glens Falls to Albany, which is about the same as Abbotsford to YVR. Albany has regular flights to most major eastern US cities, including big hubs like Chicago, Atlanta, and Minneapolis.

The only NHL cities that the Abbotsford airport has direct flights to are Calgary and Edmonton. Unless the Flames were in Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton when they needed to make a call-up (and the Heat were in Abbotsford too), the drive to the nearest airport won't be any worse.

The advantage to having the team in Abbotsford is that you can do a quick call-up, if both teams are at home at the time. The disadvantage is that the team has to travel so much more that they lose practice days. For the long-term development of the players, the extra practice days are much more valuable than the few times during the season that they took advantage of quick call-ups.

Heat is not a name, it's weather. Let's go back to nicknames than end in S please.

Question for you AHL Guru's, if Abbotsford moves to Glens Falls, would they be in the same division as the new Allentown Phantoms?
If so the new Allentown arena is like 10 mins away from my house so I could probably go to all of those games..

No quick call ups from there.
For this reason, I don't see them as a long term solution.

Regular team travel seems far more important than call-up travel, though, right? How many call-ups happen, with one or two players at a time, compared with the whole team traveling for road games.

Looks like its about 6 hours with the stop over from Albany to Calgary. I really don't think quick trips to Calgary are that big of a concern. Very rare that you need a guy to show up and play in the same day.

I just drove through there last weekend on my way to NY from Montreal. It really isn't much of a town at all, and right in the middle of nowhere. Hope it works out.....I agree with bringing back the flaming A.....awesome logo.

I understand that but the Glenn Falls arena is sitting empty so it's probably close to 100% loss being covered by the taxpayer. Hard to get worse than that. Unless you mean that Abby is covering team losses?

Dear WestJet,

Please put together a twice a year charter flight from YYC to Albany with a bus tour hosted (again) by Hacksaw Jim Duggan. I guarantee a sell out every time! In fact Pat Steinberg has already broken his Piggy Bank for the deposit

Love CP

Also I took a look at their Facebook page, and it is nice to see so many comments welcoming the Heat to Glens Falls

Glens Falls is also set up alot like Vancouver when it comes to census information.

Glens Falls (15k), West Glens Falls (7k), Glens Falls North (8k) and Queensbury (28k) are all pretty much 1 larger community. So it is more like moving to a community of 58,000 people.

Thank god they cut a huge hole in the stands so nobody can have a low center ice view.
