Well the Flames better have a good contingency plan. They'll need some cap hits going into next season as well. I wonder if they will back the brinks truck up to a younger Ufa or twos door before upping the offer for Cammy.
Even then I think the whole size thing is going to factor in and Calgary thinks they can get bigger via free agency.
IMO that offer is in the right ballpark for Cammy but I do agree he will get more on the open market.

He's known to frequent the Sportchek at Market Mall. Saw him there last week.
It's weird running into a guy then browsing the store and seeing his Jersey on the wall and his Adidas commercial playing in the background.

Why would Cammie move until he knows where he'll be playing next season?

Hes still under contract. As I understand, contracts dont expire until July 1.
So, if the Flames want him to stand on one leg in Olympic Plaza while juggling chainsaws then hes got to be around to do it.

Squid: Hey, this wasn't in the job description. . .
Burke: Shut up, Mike.

I think the flames will be in the trade market where they take back much more salary than they send out. Not sure UFA's will come here unless the flames overpay on term and that is scary thinking they could be stuck long term with bad money when the young guys need to be re-signed

Myself, I don't see much in the UFA market that gets me excited. We should probably be looking at making some trades.

a lot of NHL players leave the place they play in as soon as their season is done. Can't imagine the Flames are any different and make the players stay away from their family just because their contract is still running. I would have thought Cammi would be in LA or some other hot destination right now.

I think he lives in Toronto in the off season. That's where he's from and where he trains, that's where his wife is from also. A little bit strange he's hanging around Calgary but he may have some non hockey business he's taking care of.

I can't remember, is he one of the guys who had a baby this season? If they have a newborn, they might not want to travel with the baby yet.

It sucks that it's the only mall with a Flames store in it.

North Hill Mall is like Ontario. Let's see what the new GM says about Cammy and go with that.

Or if he has school aged kids, he would likely stick around to the end of June.

If I'm not mistaken, he only has a daughter that is a year or two old.

Treliving seems to put as much emphasis on size as Burke so there's simply not enough room for these guys. That said, Cammy is a star player and losing him for nothing would be a tragedy.
It seems like there are 3 possible scenario's for Cammy at this point:
1. Re-sign with Flames 6x3 while moving out a small top 9 forward.
2. Traded at the draft (perhaps signed and traded if a deal's in place).
3. Enters free agency and an asset is lost for nothing.
There's no way that next season this management group would ice a line-up that includes Cammy, Gaudreau, Byron and Baertchi in the top 9. Definitely not more than 2 in the top 6 forward group.
Safe to say the make-up of this team will look at least a bit different next season. Here's hoping they don't tinker it too much or the Flames may lose the hard working identity they established this season.

That rumoured contract is fair enough for the Flames. $12 million over 3 years is about what he is worth to this franchise right now. He isn't the game breaker to take this team into the playoffs in the future, but there's a place here for him to contribute of he wants to in the present. Interested to see if Treliving has the same attitude towards this situation as Burke does.

Do you think they are considering trading his rights to a team that has cap space and could make a playoff push again? Teams such as the Ducks or Kings. I think the Kings would be a great spot for him, they need someone that has a good scoring touch with some skill.
