I think they pick which ever centre falls to them. If they were picking 5th, I'm sure they would pick Dal Colle if they thought he was BPA and the three top centres were gone.
|
He also said he drafts BPA, not by position. If he thinks Dal Colle is better than Draisaitl for example I think he would still take Dal Colle.

He also is a big kid which Tree is looking for with the versatility to play center.

First Line Centre

Oh I definitely agree they go with BPA. I was just assuming they think that playing center is one of the things that make the Sams and Drasaitle more valuable than a winger, if they are close. If they think Dal Colle is clearly the better pick then they don't risk losing him by trading with the Islanders.

If they pick Draisaitl before us, we'll still pick Dal Colle...
We won't trade our pick if one of the Sams are available though.

I think this kind of reasoning can get you into trouble. We have no idea of who other teams will pick. I hope the Flames have a list of the top 4 players in the draft by their estimation. They take the highest one of the 4 still available when the Flames' turn to pick comes. It's ridiculous to get a 4th pick and start to look at trading down. If you have the 10th pick and want to move down to 11 or 12 because there are 3 players you rate the same, fine. Don't mess with a good thing.

What I was trying to explain was if it's a toss up between Dal Colle and Draisaitl, trade the Isles, making them give us a draft pick or a prospect to move up a spot. Doesn't do much damage, and we win by most likely picking Draisaitl at #5 and getting another draft pick and/or a prospect.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Isles waited until we picked first though. I think they'll trade down if Dal Colle is picked, and look for a team that needs a center for Draisaitl at #5 such as the Leafs.

Of course I am not a scout, pretty sure Treliving and the scouts know on who to pick, and I am on board with staying with the 4th pick. Just giving a scenario I wouldn't mind doing.

I don't think the Islanders will get to bent out of shape picking Draisaitl just because he is listed as center.
He has shown he can be an effective LWer.

I heard the hype train on Draisaitl has cooled and the Oilers media are all over Bennett now? It is going to be a toss up between those 2 with te Flames picking whoever is left over

I can't see the Oil waiting for Bennetts 178lbs frame to develop.

He said on the radio a week ago that he's 6'1", 180.
Is that much different than Taylor Hall when he was first drafted?

With Draisatl sitting there I think they take him, but we'll see.
I think Del Colle goes 5th for sure regardless of how the 1-4 order goes

I'm increasingly liking Draisaitl the more I read about him. Good shift-by-shift scouting report from one of the Edmonton sites.

No but Bennett plays a physical style. We've seen physical players who are physically underdeveloped struggle/bust when put straight into the NHL (see Gilbert Brule). Craig Button thinks this is a reason why you might not want Bennett to step in right away.
In many ways I do think Draisaitl fits EDM better than Bennett. I don't think EDM could pass on Reinhart or Ekblad if either fell to them.

I actually think they'd be more likely to pass on Reinhart than Bennett just because of the grit in Bennett's game. Knowing the Oilers, they'd rush Bennett to the NHL.
