It's great/perfect. It's only bad at that one point where it dips low and mud and drippings and water gathers from the industrial road and the tracks above.

No it wasn't despite the beautiful morning. I even researched all the correct hand signals, where to ride in the lane, etc. Riding alongside cars is not for me. Back to the bumpy paths.

I rang my little bike bell in protest to the honks but I don't think they heard.

The pathways and roads from Bridgeland to downtown are a disaster. North and South pathways have closures, so they're out. 2and Ave downtown is closed in two spots, so riding on 3rd ave through the City Centre construction zone is the replacement for my nice morning ride along the river... ugh.

I live in Lake Chaparral and work in Midnapore. I take Chaparral Blvd which turns into Sun Valley Blvd. All the honks came in whilst on Sun Valley Blvd.

There is a pedestrian sidewalk path beside the road which I prefer not to ride on as it is bumpy and has pedestrians on it.

I don't know the deep south very well. Keep looking for a safe route and try to keep your cool. Good on you for doing a long ass commute like that!

Screw those guys man - as long as your being respectful to commuting traffic keep on that path.

My toughest stretch from Cranston is the part where Fairmount Drive turns into Centre Street all the way to the intersection at 58th Street.

It's narrow, pot-holed and has high curbs and some people get really impatient along there.

It's funny, I try not to be on main roads or non-bike friendly routes. The bottom line in Calgary is total congestion. All these cars are just running around to spend the next five minutes at the next red light approx every 1000 metres. I can actually cycle to work (8 km) in about the same time as it takes me in my car. You just wind up waiting at the lights. So motorists really need to chill out.

Any recommendations for a new cycle commuter on biking from 16th ave ne / centre street to 49th ave NE (by Canada Post)

From what I can see there's about three options:

Option 1: Take pathway along nose creek up to McKnight. Then have to get on the road from McKnight to 12th Street NE as there's no path to cross over Deerfoot. Biking on McKnight does not seem to be the brightest option. It's short but that intersection is a mess in a car and nobody will be expecting a bike.

Option 2: Head west, pathway by fox hollows for a bit then cross Deerfoot and go up 12th Street NE. 12th Street NE isn't great but it's not McKnight. I tried this out on the weekend and it wasn't too bad although the lights to cross 32nd ave were a little maddening!

Option 3: Longest distance but least amount of driving in traffic. Can take pathway all the way to Deerfoot Mall and then likely cut through the parking lot and side streets working my way back south.

North East isn't really set up for cycle commuting but I'm determined to give it a go. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Option 2 is by far the best I think. Enough room there that you won't be hassled too much.
