Paul Colborne is the president and CEO of Surge Energy inc., and the president of Legacy Oil and Gas, and StarValley Oil and Gas. He is worth a bazillion dollars.

From Joe's Wikipedia page:
"His father Paul, an oil and gas executive and former football quarterback at the University of Calgary..."
Edit: Beaten to it.

Can't remember exactly when Button was hired, but he was only prohibited from round 1. In this case the Flames are picking high enough in round 1 that who the Flames pick shouldn't impact Phoenix.

Button was hired first week of June in 2000, 17 days before the draft IIRC. Flames were picking 9th and Stars 25th.
Treliving has 60 days before the draft. Flames are picking 4th, Phoenix 12th.

tough life for Joe, if being a pro hockey player doesn't work out there's always a cushy exec job bossing people around in a giant oil company.

Phoenix has finished respectably for a long while now, not sure how much of a hand Treliving had in it, but it's clearly some and hopefully we can draw on that and extrapolate the results. Excited to see the official announcement tomorrow.

Judging by the Elliot Freeman interview on the FAN960, he wa sa big contributor to that due to the small frotn office PHX had

Yeah... some kids of wealthy parents are entitled.
And some, like Joe Colborne and apparently Brad Treliving, grow up see how much hard work is involved with being successful, and work maybe even harder than anybody does.

Kind of puts him in a good light as Hartley said he's one of the hardest working, nicest kids he's coached.

I have no idea why I am always singled out as being a negative poster when we have seen so much of this stuff since the day Burke was hired and I've been nothing but patient with the whole thing. I even supported Feaster when he was hired until the last season when the funny stuff started happening.

Brad Treliving was a big part of the former WPHL dba CHL's parent Global Entertainment Corporation and their subsidy International Coliseums Company.
http://prohockeynews.com/lack-of-exp...hockey-league/
They used WPHL/CHL franchises to pitch arena's in cities through the USA. Over promising and leaving a handful of cities with millions in debt and arena's incapable of producing the revenue needed to sustain their bonds.
Brad is a proven asset when left to the hockey business. I'm just not sure I'd put too much weight behind him if he is supposed to be the champion of a public/private partnership on a new arena.

I hope Treliving and co hit a home run with this upcoming pick, curious to get his opinion on the top prospects, and what qualities he values most.
I'm so jealous of the Avs seeing what MacKinnon is doing in Colorado. Wish we had a young superstar kid like that. Monahan is going to be good, but he he's not gonna be a franchise changer.

Hopefully this newer management structure insulates mistakes a first time General Manager makes. Having a resource like Brian Burke to bounce ideas and thoughts off of cannot be underestimated. Having am assistant GM under yo handling a lot of day to day duties helps too

So Burke, Feaster, Conroy, Treliving walk into a Boston Pizza...
Ok, now that every lame joke is out of the way, we can stop.

Interesting timing on this as I believe our scouting meetings for the draft are this week. If he's able to work right away (which I would assume he is) then he'll be able to moderate the scouting meetings this week.
