I've been hoping for a Treliving type guy in all this. I think with an experienced GM running hockey ops the Flames have the luxury of bringing in a bright younger guy that has a nose for hockey talent and teaching him the rest.
The Canucks are the exact opposite ... they need experience because Linden hasn't a lick of history as a hockey exec.

Sure, I guess.........

It is saying nothing. Basically an Eklund type tweet.

You're not going to find proof that its true but I tend to believe it. Just from how Eakins conducts his interviews he's the type of guy an inexperienced GM would hire - super confident, tons of buzz words, inflated reputation from being with the Leafs.

If I had to guess Benning will go to Vancouver and Calgary will get Treliving. I would be really happy with either of those two.

The last bit, I suspect, is important. It's been pretty clear from Eakins' performance in Edmonton that he's all hat and no cattle. Well, when he was coaching the Marlies he had cattle, all right, but they were rented from Dave Nonis. MacTavish should have checked the ear tags.

Plenty of time left, Burke said had many teams personnel on their radar, some that may take into late May or June to talk to.
Treviling and McPhee are two candidates for sure, but as others become available, Burke had previously said will talk to them too. Futa, Benning, Fenton, and likely others.
Much of this from Boomer and Friedman just seems to be media who wants to be the first to say a particular candidate so down the road they will get that credit if it comes true, but I'd be surprised if anything is imminent.
I expect weeks to go before anything decided.

Not sure why Boomer is getting hammered for this. The guy shared information that he has. I'd rather the guy do that then sit on it. Who cares if he doesn't know anything but the fact that he's hearing rumblings that the Flames are zeroing in? I'd rather know that then nothing.

I won't pretend that 5 minutes ago, I didn't know anything about Brad Treliving. The fact that others seem to like him and he is a candidate for other teams gives me some optimism.
The thing at the back of my mind though, is that Phoenix doesn't exactly have a great winning tradition. They have been bad to average for years now and it doesn't give me a lot of confidence in anyone from their organization. Now granted, Phoenix has budget challenges that handicap management to a degree so you can say that they have done reasonably well with what they have, but personally, I have always attributed that more to the quality coaching the team has had.
I guess I wonder what Brad Treliving might have learned in Phoenix over the past 7 years. If he has learned that the key to success is finding a star coach and building a roster that can trap and bore the opposition to death all season, then do we really want that? I would just hope that he has more tricks up his sleeve than that.
Just to play devil's advocate a little. Like I said, I didn't know much about him before I read this thread.

Cash Strapped Budget team that's drafted well over the years. With Treliving being a major part of that. I think in terms of what type of contracts and hitting the fair value mark, Treliving/Burke will be better suited than say a Burke/McPhee tandem.
That was my only concern really if McPhee came to CGY, how would he and Burke fare at getting good value for UFA's? I'm a little more comfortable in that department with any executive from ARZ.
Theres a finger cooking with Bill kind of joke in here somewhere.

Is there a part of his statement you disagree with? Looks pretty accurate to me based on the events of a year ago.

I don't recall seeing anything around that said that Eakins somehow hoodwinked MacTavish into firing the previous coach...
Could MacT firing the former coach in favour of Eakins be related to his lack of experience? Sure! But to say that Mac was somehow tricked by Eakins as part of some plot on Eakins' part seems a tad silly.

Actually it's saying that, according to his sources, the Flames have found their GM.
It's absolutely incredible such a simple tweet is so impossible for some people to understand.

I think he has no choice really. Despite Eakins regressing the team in virtually every measurable stat it would be egg on MacTavish's face admitting his first big move bombed. He's probably praying for improvement next season in hopes he doesn't have to fire his big hire.

Or he's an evil genius who hired an idiot to facilitate acquiring McDavid. Nah.

You could've fooled me. Seems like you understood the tweet to mean "Nothing nothing nothing, nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing."
But hey, you let that freak flag fly brother.

Yep exactly. I appreciate a tweet that says a hiring is close, where lots of other insiders would feel pressure to say more to generate hits/retweets and just say they suspect it's (insert strongest rumored candidate).
As a Flames fan I don't know how you could possibly think sharing inside info that a hiring is close to be a negative thing. Like seriously guys, get a grip.
I get being tough on media when they deserve it, but I can see why most Calgary media hates CP, when we go for the throat on every single little thing that gets shared by Calgary media. Good lord.
