Like I said, IMO.
But doesn't Glenn Gould play piano? Miles Davis a trumpet? I really don't listen to that type of music, but thats kinda what I saw from google.
I'm not saying its wrong to use computers to make something better, refine something, or "add" to the music. I have a problem with people that use "only" computers to make a beat and then put words to it. To me, thats the not real music.

You've really got expand your horizons if you don't know who those two are. Do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of "Kind of Blue".

Real emo is dead and has been for almost ten years.
Emo is Rites of Spring, (old) Hot Water Music, Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas is the Reason, etc.

what is all this talk about rap not being real music beacuse it doesn't use real instruments. Almost all music now are ran through computers and edited to sound better.
It takes skill to make rap beats. A computer is an instrument and the producer or whoever makes the beats is manipulating the computer which takes skill. Really no different then electric guitar or piano. It takes skill and not everyone can just pick up a computer and start making digital beats.

Are you kidding me? You're going to actually tell me that some punk on his computer has more talent than Hendrix or Clapton?

Using a computer to edit your music isn't the same thing as using a computer to make your music.
There is a difference you know.

well I mean both. Editing music and using software to make music. Drum pads, turn tables, synthesizers and soo on too. They are all instruments. Just because one is more technoligcally advanced does not make it less of a REAL instrument.
What if I said Jimi Hendrix sucks because he doesn't use a real instrument. Its an electric guitar. Its uses amps and distortions to make sound, its not real.

I think while rap has been pretty innovative within the studio and in terms of production, etc, it will never be able to touch other forms of music in live performance. There is something about bands being able to reproduce their songs on the spot, spontaneously, with variations, jams, that to me, is essential to the magic of the live experience. I dont think rap can really achieve that.

Quote:
A musical instrument is a device constructed or modified with the purpose of making music. In principle, anything that produces sound, and can somehow be controlled by a musician, can serve as a musical instrument. The expression, however, is reserved generally to items that have a specific musical purpose. The academic study of musical instruments is called organology.

Electronic instruments generate sound through electronic means. They often mimic other instruments in their design, particularly keyboards.

sounds like a computer could be defined as a musical istrument. I guess a computer just doesn't fit your skewed preception of what is a real musical instrument is. Welcome to 2006. Its not 1806 we are not using banjos, folk guitars, and violins to make music anymore.

Snoop Dogg live is pretty good. He uses something like an 8 piece live band, they all play "real" instruments for his gangster rap songs.

A garbage can can be a musical instrument.
What kind of music do you listen to? You seem to believe music is a somewhat limited art form, so I'm wondering what kind of music or even which musicians fit inside your guidelines.
