Didn't see the game at all, but 12 shots for the Avs? Wow. Never going to win with that kind of effort. Kudos to Cookeless-Minnesota

Thanks to the suspension, it's pretty easy for me. Cheer for Minnesota to win this series and eliminate the tankers, then cheer for St. Louis (hopefully) to eliminate Cooke and the Wild. Win-win!

Still think av's win in 7. If minny had home field advantage I would say they win in 7. Av's will get swept in the 2nd round.

God the Wild play boring hockey. I hope the Avs win the next two games, and finish them off.

That's what many thought in 2003 but the Avs lost game 7 at home in OT to the Wild.

WTF is with everyone and the "Colorado Tanked Last Year" meme? Where does this idea come from? Just because they were successful this year, they were tanking last year?

No, they were tanking last year because they tanked last year. Were you under a rock? They left a useless coach in place despite the team quitting on him, they had a talented roster that just stopped playing (talk of trips to Las Vegas and division in the dressing room). It couldn't have been any more obvious what they were doing had you been watching / paying attention. It was bad.

The Oilers, you mean? Every season?

Don't buy the Avs tank either.
They sucked last year. They were lucky this year (well Mackinnon helps you not suck. A lot) but they're not a good as their record shows this year, imo

Looking at the Corsi and those things it seems likely that this year was as much of a fluke as last year.

Alot of people on CP have this thing about labelling every team that sucks as "tankers" to feel better about not being able to land MacKinnon.

Not enough goals for you? Watch lacrosse. That was great playoff hockey. MIN was one bad bounce away from disaster.

Nah, it's just Colorado. And I might say Buffalo next year depending on what they do in the off season.

Bottom line, teams don't tank. Just something upset fans make up to feel better about when their team doesn't get the next top young player.

I don't believe players go out there and try to play bad for a better pick. That just won't happen. Tanking has to happen at the GM level. Not firing an incompetent coach that completely lost the players, not signing Ryan O'Reilly until they were forced to, not doing anything to improve the team in season... Colorado tanked, or at least it certainly looked like they did. They drafted MacKinnon, got the coach they wanted and won the division a year later so it really worked out for them either way, but I still believe it happened.

Maybe, but I don't buy that. GMs, coaches, etc won't intentionally tank for a player when they could very well be fired for a lost season. I highly doubt Sacco, Pierre LeCroix, Eric LeCroix, the assistant coaches and the AGM all sacrificed their jobs and Sherman got demoted to pencil pusher just to help Colorado get a top pick when they're not even with the team anymore.

Maybe it was just general incompetence in the Avs management last season? Either way, it looks very suspicious.
