Still doesn't make any sense to me that they trade Penner for a middle round pick and didn't acquire another forward to replace him. I know they have some good young forwards, but still, expecting them to come through in the playoffs is not a good plan.
I think that was done to try to acquire Kesler or Vanek/Moulson
Pretty impressed with the Stars as they look like the better team right now but not really surprising given Ruff has coached a lot in the playoffs. The more I see those green jerseys the more I like them. I hope they stick with these colours as they are the best since the old North Stars.

Agree about both points.
The jerseys are quite classy

Yea, very likely, but they still should of had a last minute back up plan set up.
I look at what Pittsburgh did, they were probably looking to add a legit top 6 winger, but the prices were not right according to their value and they traded for Stempniak right before the deadline.

I think that timing thing screwed a lot of teams. Gillis trolling everyone with Kesler then pulling out at the last minute
That's one of the issues with being such a top heavy team in that the Ducks really depend on Perry and Getzlaf as it's a steep drop from them to Bonino. They really miss Ryan's goal scoring abilities at times like this. They really should have made a move at the deadline for a guy like Cammalleri.

Considering the last time Penner played in a playoff he had 5 points in 18 games, and only 35 points in 78 games in his career, I doubt losing him is what is killing the Ducks.
Penner hasn't had an impact in the playoffs since 2006.

Yeah it's a bit of a myth that he's some sort of big time playoff performer. He's had a couple of good playoff runs but he's been his normal indifferent self more than not.

While he only had 5 points, I believe some of his points were very important if I remember correctly. Id still rather have Penner then a mid round pick for a team hoping to go on a run.
Edit - Penner also had 32 points in 49 games this year with the Ducks.
Because he was invisible in the first three games and need to win trumps sentimentality.
We all love Lanny, but there's a reason why he was a part-time player in the 89 playoffs.
I don't know if I'd call it just sentimentality. Even at his age I still think he's an upgrade on all of Silfverberg, Smith-Pelley, and Palmieri in terms of playoff experience.
Getzlaf will probably be playing. Selanne will be in the lineup. Interesting quote from him. "It's playoff time, and I don't even want to think of any negative energy. Tomorrow is a big day, and we go from there."
