Cool. Interesting that Gretzky in 1984 was the first to hold the cup portion. Every year followed was the same.

Yeah, looks super strange looking back on those pre-84 trophy hoistings.
Reminds me of the way I hold newborn babies - awkward as hell

I never knew that it was a two piece trophy in the 50's.

Johnny hockey better start hitting the gym, and start practicing raising those cups!

Sakic passing the cup to Bourque, one of the classiest moves ever.

Still love the Bob Gainey one. He was totalled in that playoff run. Both shoulders dislocated or separated.

The Cup's bands had different widths during the 50s, kinda like patch work and had a removable cup. The stovepipe Cup of the 30s & 40s also had a removable cup.

It also seems like in the 1990s, it became a lot more tame. Before that, it was like a big scrum with the Cup in the middle, and now it is basically a presentation with the other players staying back. The old way looked a lot more fun. It probably didn't offer as many individual photo-ops though.

I think 1989 was the best one.

My favourite's have to be the ones where the players emotions just completely overtake them, i.e. Chara's in 2011, Messier in 1994 and Lanny in 1989. They are all just shaking with joy, it's so awesome to see.

I agree, I thought that was strange. I also thought it was strange that the islanders where holding the cup at the bottom, upright while skating around the ice. Very interesting.

And the only one with 2 guys in their undershirts. I always thought that was funny.

Before Selanne got the Cup, I think Scott handed it to brother Rob. I thought that was really cool. How proud could a father be?

The best part is that there was no Vancouver player in the video!
