Ron MacLean won't be disciplined for his comments:

Good, I wonder how many people called the police to report him.

If McLean is worried about that, I wonder why he wasn't also worried about this:

Is and was a ridicules point - and McLean is intelligent enough to realize this, and retract

Which police?
The SQ (provincial police) or the OQLF (language police)?

It was not a ridiculous point at all. Considering how awful he was in game 3 and that he was from Quebec, he should not have been reffing in game 4.

Well, Essex is more Red Wing country than Leafs, and North Bay is Senator land.

Then again, the official that made the controversial call that MacLean was talking about was from Gatineau - which is of course a satellite city of Ottawa.

While I disagree with what MacLean said, I think sometimes an apology is enough.

It was not the same "French" official in game 3 as in game 4.

The whole thing and Ron's response to it is quite absurd. Its was initially just gamesmanship by Cooper(similar to Forsberg's comments prior to the gold medal final) and then the media trolled it along.

The idea of identifying NHL refs by province or state is a non-starter and uncalled for. Are they going to California born ref from calling a game in LA?

The NHL refs are pros and make good money but not enough that they would jeopardize a career with bias. They do make mistakes but there was nothing to any of these calls, they were borderline and even Fraser on the CBC agreed with the call but was not really 100 percent on it.

I agree. The point McLean tried to make later was that he would have said the same thing about an official from Alberta working a Flames or Oilers game.

Quote:
"Ron apologized and clarified his remarks later in the broadcast, saying it would be no different if you assigned a ref from Alberta for a game involving Calgary or Edmonton playing another NHL team."
This is simply neither very feasible, nor something that the NHL has done in practice.

Are you kidding me? The wings are toast. They're looking less and less able to solve Rask with each game and Boston's only getting better. Detroits no longer what they used to be in the playoffs.

And it's true, if you've heard interviews post-series.. players don't like sitting around for too long before the next one. Often say they're rather go into the next one without much of a gap and carry momentum. And you see teams look a bit rusty after sitting around, while the opponent is still in the flow.

I picked the Habs to win in 6 but a sweep is impressive. They can rest up by not having to take that Florida trip. D looked loosy goosie at times but their forwards were well balanced and a constant threat.
Looking forward to a classic Boston vs Montreal series.

Detroit, who are playing with a team nearly half full of last season AHLers, is giving Boston quite the handful.
One would have thought the 'mighty' Bruins would be far more dominant

You mean like giving up only two goals in three games?

No. I meant like not getting shut out while losing your playoff opener at home

....and then winning the next 2 games by a combined 7-1, while totally dominating? Did you watch any of Game 3? Boston totally owned Detroit up and down the ice.

Oh wait, sorry, I didn't notice you were a Habs fan. I'll stop making sense and applying actual hockey knowledge to the conversation. My bad.

If the criteria required to be branded a Habs fan is responding to a silly notion of officiating bias by provincial birth, and hating the Bruins - then I guess I am a Habs fan
If they play the Bruins next next series, absolutely cheering bleu, blanc et rouge

Not sure if this is true, but apparently Stamkos said his leg never felt right after coming back. Anyone else hear something like that?

Yes, he was talking about his skating and that he just didn't have that explosive push.

No surprise, but he should be 100% in the fall

Not a silly notion at all. Refs may not even realize they are being bias in certain situations.
