The only time Draisaitl was top 3 was on a mock draft, not a scouting ranking.

Wrong. Draisaitl was ranked #2 in Central Scouting's mid-term rankings.

Sure, but I think the fluctuations over the past several months and weeks attests more to how close the top four are, and rather contradicts this idea about a supposed gulf that separates #3 and #4.

He has NHL size right now, no doubt. His skating has been reported as anywhere from poor, to average. From what I've seen of him, I would put his skating, using the Randy Carlyle rating system, as "Just ok". I didn't think it was a glaring weakness.

Astonishing to encounter someone who can project the prospects of 18-year-old hockey players five years into the future.

This is ridiculous.

One place had Draisaitl at two ... once. I would say that's an exception. Meanwhile the other three have been bouncing from 1-3 over several sources. The tiers have been stated pretty consistently, and Draisaitl is on the second tier.

If none of the top three are there, he's not a bad pick, I think he'd be a good one, but I'm not going to pretend the others aren't better.

Isn't "in my opinion" implied by every single post on a forum?

That's what a draft is. Pick whichever player is left you believe will be the best in the future.

The Hockey Writers has him at #3 now.

I completely agree. But I do take exception to the characterisation of separation of every other prospect from the top three as "significant". In my mind, there is a gap, but it is hardly substantial.

I think the Flames are likely to draft one of Draisaitl, Bennet, or Dal Colle, and will happily end up with a hell of a player.

If Buffalo takes Bennett what are the chances the Oilers draft Reinhart? He is more skill and smarts than size and grit. I think they go Draisiatl over Reinhart which would allow him to slide to the Flames

I worry that in such a scenario the Oilers heavy exposure to Reinhart from his years playing against the Oil Kings, and most recently from his very good showing in the playoffs are more than likely to inflate their impression of him. I don't think Reinhart escapes the top three.

There's gotta be no way the Oilers pick Draistaitl over Reinhart... the size difference isn't even that big. Neither are physical players, so you just pick the best one.

Sure. But not all opinions are equally valid. ANYONE who believes that they can gauge the value of developing hockey players that far into the future is full of it.

I never guaranteed any of my predictions with 100% certainty. Nobody can predict the future, I'm just doing the best with what knowledge I have.

Isn't there a 30-35lb difference?

All the more upside potential for Reinhart when he matures into his body. There's almost no height difference.

Stranger things have happened I guess, but I wouldn't hold out much hope in drafting Reinhart. Calgary's only realistic chance of that happening was winning the draft lottery.
