Habs fans are like vegans except instead of just telling you they're Habs fans within the first 5 minutes you meet them, they'll bash it into your skull, tell you about the 24 Stanley Cups, tell you that Richard is God, make fun of your team and also throw in a bit of Western Canada hate (even if they're born and raised Calgarians).

Habs fan always seem to have the attitude that they are Cup-favorites, no matter what their team does on the ice. It's been 20 years of suck for them too, yet there's absolutely no humility with that fanbase.
That and there's something extremely annoying about so-called Flames fans who suddenly become Habs fans for a game a year. But that's not just a Habs issue.

Canada does not, and never has, competed for the Stanley Cup. It is a club title, not a national one, and I see no compelling reason to cheer for Montreal on the basis that the team is based in Canada. I don't support our giant national inferiority complex.
 |
Endless thanks! Finally someone else who shares my exact viewpoint. I hate every other canadian team with a passion. If Edmonton were to win the cup do you think they would be saying "this is for you Canada"? No, they would laugh and spit in our face as they parade up and down Whyte Ave. Canadian teams are our biggest rivals and should not be supported on that basis alone. Go Philly!

This is precisely it. Every time I attempt a conversation with one of them it's always about how great they are, how this is the year, that their players are superstars in the making, something along the lines of "you just wait and see", and when you try to bring them back down to earth a little, they come back with some garbage about their 24 cups, or with one of their stupid chants, because they'd rather just drown you out than listen to negativity or even reason. Most smug, childish fans I've probably ever witnessed. And constantly living in the past.

How do you get behind a fanbase like that?.. |

Don't you mean Detroit That series is 1-1 heading back to Motor City though so it's a little too early to be making the call Boston is going to win.

Either Boston or Detroit against Montreal would be a great Atlantic division final.

that part made me laugh. Pay up on that bet yet?

The non-goal call: glad I didn't have to make it. I'll accept the agreement by refs Ron Maclean and Kerry Fraser. Fraser doesn't like the way the rule is written, but that's the way it is now. Maybe it gets looked at in the off season.

Habs have looked very good so far this series. Subban has regained his mojo, they have 4 lines rolling with almost everyone contributing. Hell, even Bourque has a fire lit under him. Price has been solid the last two games.

As for the whole "they have crappy fans" thing, whatever. There are dicks in every fanbase.

^^The crappy fans thing is a bit worn, i would not root for a team based on their fans. Everyone has encountered creeps at the Canuck games in the dome, but they are our rivals on the ice so they are easy to root against. Even if they were the nicest people in the world, I would still wish the worst(hockey related) on the Canucks team.
One thing i noticed in game 3 was that i have not heard the habs fans sing-a-long like that in awhile, it sounds like nationalism is in fashion in Montreal again. The Habs were always the federalist team in Quebec, they incorporated the old English Montreal Maroons fan base when the Maroons folded.

Montreal actually played Boston well in the regular season. That was one of the reasons why I was hoping Tampa could win. Easier round two match-up. However, the Lightning were toast when Bishop went down, but was at least hoping they could extend the series.

As it is, if we get the worst case and a Montreal-Detroit round two, I'll probably end up wanting the Habs to win.

playoffs and regular season are very different...and yeah I am calling for Boston to beat Detroit

could be wrong but I doubt it, can't see Boston losing in the first round

Recently moved to Montreal. Could mostly have not cared less about the Habs - not a franchise or fan base that inspired anything in me, except loved that our win came on their ice.
I really do not understand the angst at all.

Late work will put me on Sainte-Catherine tonight before and then after game time. I really hope they win. I expect it to be outstanding. The energy and passion of this fan base is like nothing I have experienced before.
 Good times

I don't particular care for the Habs, and I don't necessarily like a good section of their fanbase...but there is no denying they love hockey. I bet you can't hear yourself think if you're one of the 21,273 fans in the Bell Centre tonight.
