Yeah, but put a couple of legit guys into that defense and they can get by... really the objective for them should be to get guys that are legit top 4 D so that they can eat the hardest minutes and allow the rest to play up a bit by leveling the disparity amoungst the rest. Schultz get's 23 minutes a night on average... he's no where near a good enough defender to play those kind of minutes. Cut his EV minutes down so he can defend against lesser competition and frontload his zone starts and he can be a weapon rather then a liability.

Luckily for the Oilers there might be some attractive d-men available for signing this summer. They have a decent amount of cap space so they should be able to fill some defensive voids.

He was tied with Jeff Petry for my favourite Oiler. This truly is a sad day. Good-bye Belov. You will be missed.

Did Garbagekov go back as well? Second best defenseman outside the NHL. Nurse must be the third.

Anton Belov told @plysenkovRUS that he didn't want to stay in Edmonton under Dallas Eakins.

Eakins has developed quite the reputation in a short time. He'll be toiling minors or be an assistant for a long time before he gets an NHL opportunity.

The money is nice and everything, but these players all talk, they phone players in Edmonton to find out if its worth it to go there, they talk to ex oilers to see how they were treated.
I think unless they clean house from top to bottom, they can have all the money in Scrooge McDucks vault and they'll still be a bottom choice for any decent free agent defensemen.
The ones that are on their last legs in the NHL, or the never will be's will sign and push for a bribe contract to go there, but I think that free agency like coaching replacement is going to be a difficult road for a dying franchise like Edmonton.

Not sure I see much quality in the UFA defensemen this year. Niskanen maybe, but most are in the 35+ category and not all that great to begin with. Even Butler looks ok, comparatively speaking

I think this is going to become a recurring theme. Not everyone is in a position to just walk away like Belov, but there seems to be lots of dissension towards Eakins as far as I can see.
And MacT has already given him the blessing for next year. Can't wait to see how it plays out with Hall in particular.

I would assume that more then one player feels this way. I would guarantee that Yak is huddling with his agent looking for an exit strategy. Whether he just says fug it and goes and plays in the KHL and to hell with his Oilers contract, or whether he outright demands a trade, I can't see him in Oiler silks at training camp.
Maybe Eakins is like an idiotic version of the joker, fighting for the souls of the edmonton Oilers with the fans.
Yak is his ace in the hole, Belov is just the start, He took one of Mac-T's prized recruits and drove him to leave.
You see in this case, abandoning ship is a lot like gravity, sometimes all you need is a little push.
